I think you double-posted your photo....oops!

It does appear that the SG chips are copies.
They are poorly made.
The labels are covering up the chip notch that is used to orient the chip in the socket in the correct direction.

You need to to lift up the label from the top of the chip body where the last number "2" of "sg252" is, and look under it to see if there's a notch on the edge of the chip body.
I'm going to say it's in the correct direction in their sockets because your MPU is able to get the VFD to display some messages.
But you need to check anyways.
You see how there's a notch on that long SB chip?...all the other chips have to be in the same direction in their sockets.

Were you able to see if the COMM harness is connected correctly?

Oops, sorry, I did check, the comm harness is correctly connected where your picture showed. When I moved the chips to the new board, I was careful about the notches. I’ve read horror stories about the notches so I moved each one, one at a time.

I think the display cpu is dead. I found an old computer power supply and plugged it in with all other cables detached, same thing. I’m going to look for a replacement unit.

Success! The machine lives again. Found a new display and installed, got the red screen. Replaced the onboard battery and it finally came to life. It still needs a more thorough cleaning and a few tweaks, but it plays.

I ordered a clear and key chip, right now the coin denomination is at $.01. Without the Varta, will key changes stick?

Yes....the Varta battery is not needed for your MPU.
Where did you find another LCD computer at?
Or did you just replace the Sharp lcd screen display (Part No. LQ10D421) like in this photo below?...>>>
