error code 3100 IGT slots

I have a year 2000 s-plus red white blue with error code 3100, I checked hopper for any other coin then a quarter, cleaned hopper and cleaned all connections, what can i do or is there someone in the RI area that can fix

Welcome to NLG. The 3100 error is an extra coin out. Try opening and closing the door and latching it and see if it clears your error.

Thanks Dave  I have tried closing the door and latching it several times with no luck, i heard the the optic out sensor could be the problem, or the hopper might be the problem, would that be true. Thanks Dave

Has it put out coins correctly before the error code? If so maybe not the hopper...on an extra coin. The optic sensor could certainly cause this if it's working incorrectly. The extra coin is kind of goofy, do you have for sure a hopper for 25 cents? If the Hopper is setup for 50 cents it could easily spit out an extra coin. Trying to think of things to cause the 3100 error. And okay has this machine worked before? If the door optics are not lined up it will not see the error being cleared. A couple of things to throw at you.

RI= Rhode Island maybe?

Extra coin out could be bad brake on hopper motor, it continues to turn a little even after being shut off by mpu and puts out another coin. The brake should engage as soon as power is removed from hopper, right? Check hopper motor brake and its spring that engages it.

When you open the door, then close and latch it again, does the LED display showing the 3100 code go blank for a few seconds?  If not, the machine is not sensing the door as being closed.

Hi Dave yes Rhode Island area sorry, the hopper is for quarter, we used the slot for years with no issues, now it has been not in use tell a couple days ago the machine will play for for a minute or two and then the error code comes up. some times when it pays out some times not. it will clear the code by opening the door and rematching it, but within minutes it happens again. the kids really want to play with it, we use it just for fun. Hi, Welcome to NLG !  I would have to think Rudy's Deals has the S+ hoppers and probably different parts for the hopper as well.  You can click on Rudy's Deals in vendors section and search for "hoppers"  Good luck !

If you can post a few photos of your hopper from different angles maybe someone will see what the problem is? Posting photos is easy, when you are entering a new message just click below your comment message box where it says "Attachments and other options", written in green.

Keep in mind that the problem could be something other than the hopper. Like a loose wiring cable or connector with erratic connection. The cable that carries power for the hopper can be checked.  Have you tried pulling the hopper out of the machine and looking it and its connections over? That's a good time to clean the hopper optic sensor too.

Before you go buying anything....save yourself some $$$ and time. Since you know this hopper was fine in the past, that's a great sign. Sure, things go out occasionally, but dust and grime do more damage to hoppers than anything. I visited the Archive site and found this post from Jim (one of our TOP S+ guys):

"99% of the problems with a 3100 error are related to the brake parts/motor housing being DIRTY.  usually a good test if the motor housing is dirty: press on the moveable arm that comes in contact with the housing, if it sticks , even one a second, that would cause the error.

so even if the parts look GOOD, if there dirty  that's your problem.  disassemble and clean the parts (especially where the pivot action takes place).

you will see the difference after you clean them, that includes the red part as well, clean the inside of the red part as well as the metal part it pivots on.

I'll bet your problem will go away.

Thanks jim i read this on another site and cleaned the contact point, because it would stick sometimes, I will clean the brake part also like you said, seems to be getting better, played it for a half hour or so with no problems. Thank You All for your Advice, and patience with me David

I decided i need to start giving back, this site has been a huge help over the years. thanks for all your info and expertise:
----> I had an s+ with a 3100 code everytime it paid out, it would pay out 11 coin on the self test most times. clean the brake latch mechanism on the motor and shortend the spring a bit because it just didnt have much tension, now works great. you guys put me on the right track one more time....
