Machine conversions
« on: May 16, 2018, 02:20:00 PM »
Is my understanding correct, that I could change out the Game and Reel ROMs, along with the top and belly glass, and essentially have another game to play?  I'm toying with the idea of getting a configuration together to support a Haywire type game on my early S+ RWB.

To make a double diamond haywire use sp1274 and ss4270. Someone will chime with the needed reel strips.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

The SP chip (aka "Game" chip) on your mpu board is compatible with a particular game "Type", such as "Type 0" or "Type 5". Many SP chips work with several Type numbers of games. This "Type" number is a way for IGT to categorize similar games that have the same features or playing characteristics. If you convert your machine to another game that is the same Type as the game you have now then you only have to change the SS chip because the SP chip will already be compatible with the new game.

But if you convert the machine to a game that is a different Type number than what your current SP chip is compatible with then you'd need to replace the SP chip as well as the SS chip. The SS chip is specific to the game and reel strips in the machine. The SP chip can work with a number of games, as long as they are compatible with the game Type number the SP chip supports.

Here is a list of SP chips and what Type number games they are for:

When you look up a game in the IGT "Bible" you will see what Type number it is near the top of the screen. For example, here is Haywire, it is a Type 2 game (Haywire Deluxe is a Type 21 game).

And here is RWB, it is a Type 0 game:

When you convert a machine to a different game you can buy the pieces needed individually, (upper and lower glass, chips, reel strips) or you can buy a game "kit" that will have the needed parts already together.

There is a FAQ that covers how to convert your machine from one game to another, here:
