I have an 1997 s+ chop top slotto machine.

Works great, but bill validator wonâ€™t turn on.

I used the chip to enable, set the denomination.

The validator looks much newer than the machine.

It does not make any cycle on noises, seems like it is plugged in properly.

Is there a way to test?

That's an old MEI and was short lived. The power supply for the BV is to the left of the unit. Probably has voltages printed on label. I'm thinking about 12V.

I decided it wasnâ€™t worth fixing on this machine.

The coin comparitor is not registering coins intermittently. The coins go into the hopper, but no credit.

Assuming this needs replacement.

Any vendors with reasonable prices on this part?

If you haven't adjusted the sensitivity then try doing it.

Bottom right side of the comparitor .. turn the pot clockwise until it stops then back counter clockwise.

Try a different quarter in the sample holder.
Wiggle the two grey wires on top....probably oxidized pins.or the pins have a broken cold solder joint....reheat them.
Adjust the rake...make sure it's free and isn't rubbing against any part of the metal cut-out.
Is the coin encoder correct?Are the optic holes clear of debris and coin dust?
Maybe you have a large token encoder in there?
Take apart the CC and clean off CC optic eyes of dust.
Your machine is over 20 years old...service it completely then let us know what you did.
There's an S+ service manual in the uploads here on NLG...read it....understand it.
Of course, if after 144 posts and you're still not a contributing member of NLG, you are not allowed in there to see it.

Thanks for the advice. Donâ€™t have a ton of time to mess with the comparitor, so probably just will replace.

Machine works perfectly otherwise. Fun game.

To your point about being a contributing member- I have been on and off, have lapsed as of late. Have tried to get all of my parts from the site sponsors, so in a way I am still contributing.[size=78%]. [/size]

I tried multiple coins and a different comparator. The rake is free,but the coins still go straight through to the coin tray
