In a S+ the counters can be unplugged without adding a jumper.

Based on the pictures you posted earlier, it appears that the power supply for your bill validator (the black plastic enclosure on the left side of the validator) is bad. More than likely if you buy a working DBV-200 power supply you'll be up and running.

You will likely also need a bill validator SET chip to enable the validator, if you don't already have one.

One thing I dont like is the loud clicking from what I assume to be the coin in/coin out counters. Can I disconnect these? 

Are you hearing a loud CLICK CLICK CLICK as reels 1 2 3 stop, or are you hearing a more rapid clicking after a win situation?
If it's the first, then you need to go in and change your settings. I have to run, but another member can chime in, if that's the case

knagl, Thanks for the response. I do think the problem is in the little board on the left side as you describe. It does have corrosion on it. I will begin by trying to remove it and clean it first. If still doesnt work I will start searching for a new board. Even though machine code says BV is activated I would still need to reactivate after installing new board? If so, I will need one of those SET chip as well.

Is the bill bezel lit ? If not then you will need a set chip to activate the bill validator.

It appears to me that the clicking noise is coming from the mechanical coin counters?

Open the door and turn off the power switch.
On the motherboard is a black Molex plug that has mostly brown wires with different colored stripes.
There is a black plastic push lever latch on the Molex connector.
Depress the lever and pull up on the Molex housing....the connector should come off of the motherboard.

Turn back on the power switch.
Close the door and play one more complete game or "pull of the handle.
Tell us if the clicking goes away.

Jay, thanks for the response. Yes the outside bezel of the BV is lit up. Pretty sure the issue is gonna be on that little board on the left of it. Been raining here all day so just kinda playing with the machine right now. In the next few days my plans are to remove the board, clean and reinstall. and then go from there.

Stayouttadabunker, thanks for the response. I was reading that the clicking noise was coming from a switch located on the pull handle vs the coin counters. I assumed it was the coin counters because that is the area the clicking is coming from. I may just leave it as is. I definitely am not as skilled as you, I dont like to solder and am sketchy at pulling stuff off the boards. Seems like when I mess around too much I cause other issues.


I will look at the plug you indicated though the next time I pull the board out and go from there.

Without anything to go by other than what you're saying, it's possible that the clicking is coming from the coin in mechanism too.

On this coin mech is a solenoid.

What this solenoid does id when it gets powered up, it moves a plastic gate to direct the coin into the proper chute.

Whether the "proper" direction is the coin hopper, the drop hole or the coin tray.

Now...on this gate solenoid is an electrical rectifier that does something with the power it receives and sends it to the solenoid to energize a magnet....sometimes this rectifier shorts out inside ad causes crazy stuff to happen.

Most commonly is the power that's screwed up causes the solenoid to start acting erratically and you'll hear it "chattering".

The only way to fix that "chattering" is to replace the rectifier or another coin-in mech holder with solenoid.

or

Go with bill handling only and remove the coin-in option entirely.

This same noise can also happen with the handle's solenoid too...not the microswitch.

The harness you need to unplug to end all the clicking the counters make is located on the backplane/motherboard on the bottom of the machine behind the hopper and to the right (not the MPU board that you can pull out).  With the machine off, slide out the hopper and look for the connector with mostly brown wires and unplug it.

Ok then it is NOT coming from the mechanical coin counters. Don't do ANYTHING to those. The sound is the machine arm SOLENOID. That setting was to make it sound more like an old fashioned mechanical slot machine. Some people love it, others don't. I was hoping the other members helping would show you this in the settings for the s plus but no one apparently read my question to you, or your response. 
I have only changed mine to make the noise, and that was about 6 years ago... so HANG ON and I'll look it up. It may take a bit so, again, if another member can find those settings, it would be great. I thought it would be in the PSR for SP731, but I can't find it. It's been too long since I worked on my S plus's. They never break!

Check dip switch #3 on MPU board, if it is off turn it on.

Thank you!! I changed the setting on DIP switch 3 and it is much better. Little clicking now when the reels stop but it comes from the speaker vs the handle solenoid.

You can also remove the reel stop noise through a setting.

Since I actually got the machine to work I am going to close this one out for now and list new/other issues under the relevant forum. I just started a post under the DBV-200 forum in hopes of reviving the BV.
