S+ bill validator and underpay no code issue

For what it's worth, even with the brake disengaged, it's difficult to rotate the hopper by hand -- it requires a decent amount of force when turning it by hand.

I think I have the knife/coin loss issue sorted-


After removing bowl, knife and coin deflector,  it appeared that the ledge for the knife was too low.


No idea why this would be the case,  but when I put all the parts into an old S hopper with a higher knife ledge, everything works.


The photos below show the gap between the knife and the hopper.  Perhaps it was made for a different style knife?








In any case, going to have to figure out the bill validator issue now.


Still getting a 62-0 code with my denom chip.  Getting a replacement shortly in case I ruined the old one at some point.

So hopper is paying perfectly and everything is good, except the bill validator.


I bought a new denom chip.  When installed I get the 0 in the coin in, but the white button does not do anything after that.


Any suggestions?

After you get the 0 use the spin button to set denom then push white button.

I tried that, no effect.


Pulled chip a few times and now showing code 21. Nothing wrong with coin mech, works great.


When game eprom is replaced, shows code 61, but can be set to play fine.


Noticed some damage/repair on board.


Perhaps this is the culprit?

Code 21 is from the optics board (or its harness) right under the coin comparitor.  It has 3 sensors if any are bad/dirty/blocked too long you get coin in error.  There is an input test to test them.  Sometimes just opening and closing door clears the code 21.


That board looks pretty bad.

The code 21 only happens with the denom chip.  No codes during normal play

are you following the "enabling the bv"  in the FAQ section?  it tells you straight forward what you get and what to press!,  the reset button in that procedure is the small white button,  located next to the power switch,   not the tiny white test button on the coin optics?

those transistors in that area are used to turn on lamps, looks like one of them got toasted and someone tried to repair the damage, usually that will only affect the lamp.

I tried to reinstall denom chip again and it worked.


Not sure why it was glitching.


Now I have a fully functional bill validator that only takes old money
