Igt s2000 triple red hot 7s mpu board 75510504 Rev B
« on: January 12, 2021, 07:37:26 PM »
Hi fellas, i have a Igt S2000 round top triple red hot 7s machine, that two days ago started showing the Netplex Display Link Down. So for 2 days i've been researching this problem. i have changed the power supply from my other working S2000 machine to the bad machine as well as the vfd display panel, the driver board for vfd and i/o cards just for the heck of it, checked connections and any other thing i could find that might would cause Netplex Display Link Down problem. i have read info till i'm blue in the face. Read that it could be a MM74C240WM ic chip on my mpu board 75510504 Rev B . I have done surface mount desoldering and soldering before with my hot air gun. Anyways if anyone could shed a little more light on this problem, i would appreciate it. Thought,  i was coming along pretty good on slot tech work till i ran into this monster of a problem. Also wanted to ask if if would hurt to put this problem mpu into my good machine without harming it, to see if problem followed the board. I would hate to have both my S2000s down.  Thanks Gentlemen, for any help you may offer.

Any Netplex device could be bringing it down. Try disconnecting the printer and bill validator. Do you still have the green varta battery on your MPU ? I hear that if it is dead this could do it. I always just remove it.

Hi dailey, thanks for responding, my mpu doesn't have the green varta battery and don't have a printer either, but i did pull the bill validator but did not help. Still working on it. Thanks.

Well, i swaped my other mpu from my other s2000 working machine and it showed Display Netplex Link Down error, no change. So i put the mpu from the Netplex error machine into my working s2000 and it showed Ram error but no Netplex error. So it leads me to believe that the mpu is good and my problem is in the cabinet of the other machine. So long story short. everythings been changed or swaped, except the bottom power distribution box where the electrical cord plugs in, the backplane and a couple more connections. If i ever get it fixed i will post results. Thanks Gentlemen.

two things,   did you try to see what is on the display with the board removed?   did you inspect the power connector plug on the motherboard, even though you swapped power supplied doesn't mean the 6 volt dc start signal is getting to the motherboard.  it should be a black wire up on top of that connector, with a meter, the black lead to any metal surface, the red lead to that black wire, should read 6 vdc or so!

Hi Jim, with mpu removed it still shows Netplex Display Link Down in left side of VFD but nothing on the 5-5-2 side. Now with the mpu installed it shows Netplex Display Link Down in the left side with "no display flashing" on the 5-5-2 side. Thanks. will try your other suggestions.

Jim, is that black wire on a big black connector close to little red light on the backplane? Thanks.

no, it is on the bottom right of the mother board, its the power connector, comes from the power supply, the black wire is up top on that connector.

Carefully check the ribbon cable on the inside of the door to the VFD for damage. Might even try swapping ribbon cable with other machine. I'm now out of ideas.

Got 6.71 volts with that black wire, that's with the connector plugged in. Thanks Jim.

Just wanted to say a Big Thanks to all you forum guys that chimed in on my problem with "Display Netplex Link Down" Wow what a experience with my S2000. Anyways the problem was a burnt trace on backplane (motherboard) going to J2 terminal 1st wire (green/red stripe). Its called netplex 6. The repair was easy i just cleaned the burnt trace down where it had separated and soldered a super small copper wire across it. The hardest part was removing the motherboard with all them terminals and wires. Yikes. Man that was tuff. I think this J2 goes to top of s2000 where the netplex junction board is. Anyways we put her back together and (Boom) Netplex Display Link Down gone and the S2000 back running like a champ. I'm getting better, might be a slot tech one day. Lol. Really appreciate the help fellas. You guys have a great week! Tomhailthank_you
