Bluebird sound
« on: January 08, 2015, 08:27:26 PM »
Hi,  recently i noticed one of my Bluebird machines wasn't in stereo sound.  I was trying out the John Wayne game and there was no speech, just game sounds.  I had sworn that the game would talk when i had played it in the past.
When i play around with the jack plug that goes into the board under the speaker assembly i can get the stereo sound back.  If i power off the machine, I'm back to square one, it also may go in and out during game play.
At first look i cant seem to tell if the problem is with the male or female plug or something with the board itself. Maybe with the connections where the female hub is soldered on.

Has anyone else run across a similar issue or know of any known problems with this.

Thanks

Lenny

Cold solder joint where the jack plugs in?

Just wanted to say the same thing happened to my Bose audio sound as well.
I ended up removing the sound amp from the bb2 cabinet, taking it apart on my bench, re-heating the RCA pin solder joints on the circuit board and the speaker jack pins.
I'm pleased to say that I have full stereo sound back!  :cool_thumb_up:

However, I had forgotten to put back in the orange RCA audio cable that runs from the amp to the top of the CPU housing.

I have great sound!...but what is that orange RCA cable for?

I still haven't put it back in....it doesn't seem to need it?

The Mini-jack is analog sound.  The orange RCA jack is digital sound.  If you use the Orange rca jack, unplug the minijack.  The digital sound is better, also sounds a bit louder for whatever reason.

Hmm...okay...I will swap out the Mini-jack for the RCA digital cable and see how it sounds. Thanks  :cool_thumb_up:
I'm assuming that because this is digital, then this isn't a plug-n-play connection.
I'll shut down the main power to perform the swap and then re-boot the bb2 cpu.

Yeah, you can't swap live.  The digital sound does not activate if you don't have it connected during the boot process as the system probes for the digital signal.  If it doesn't see it, it default to analog only.
