Bluebird 1 keeps rebooting after game change & clear
« on: August 06, 2018, 11:17:13 AM »
Just swapped out a game card, Big Money Cheese Caper for Kaboom, did a ram clear & put the Kaboom OS card back in. After powering back up, before I get to the part where I set up my denoms, etc. It reboots & starts all over again and again, any ideas?

Does it do the same for old game if you try to install that now?  Sounds like a flaky power supply, or a loose MPU.

Does it reboot after the slot is on for short period of time.  Grease has probably dried up on the CPU heatsink and it is overheating.  this will cause a reboot.  This is a common problem with the older bb1 machines.

also make sure any cooling fans in that cpu area are running.

David-Br59,   As far as the grease goes it's di-electic grease-same thing used on automotive to disapate heat-esp. on ign. modules etc.  Most of it is white cream substance than can be bought locally anywhere.  I know you may already know that and that as another member stated were somewhat there achillies heels on those-Catch it before it's fried.  B. I have had to use that stuff for years.  I got mine back when I worked for FMC.   Without getting technical the other is the power supply-On those there were many fixes but it's not far from a common home computer power supply if it winds up there without checking all the voltages etc.  There should be threads here in that talk of these fixes.

I use this thermal compound.  It is widely used in the computer industry to transfer heat from cpu die to heatsinks.  If you do the procedure, you need to make absolutely sure that whatever gunk was there before is totally removed so that the new thermal compound and transfer heat properly.  Take off all residue from previous thermal compound before you apply this to the cpu die.
