I have an 809 series (I think it's an 809, the dataplate is missing).  It stopped accepting coins or crediting after a jackpot payout (it was working before the payout).  The coin lockout coil behind the coin mech does not appear to be energizing anymore.  I'm wondering if it needs to be reset?

The troubleshooting guide says:

"5. IF A BIG JACKPOT HAS JUST BEEN HIT, IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO OPEN THE DOOR AND FLICK THE COIN SWITCH ONCE. CASINOS DID THIS WITH A KEY TO RESET THE MACHINE AFTER A BIG JACKPOT."

I've tried tripping the coin switch with my finger to no avail.  I also pulled the fuses out & checked with a multimeter, they are all fine.  I am wondering if there is something else I can do to "reset" it?  Or maybe I am on the wrong track and there is something else going on?  I am open to any suggestions.  Thank you!

I'm certainly no expert but, I don't think it's an 809?  My manual refers to the 809 as a 5 coin and yours is a three (it also has no listing for a 3 coin model??).

Do you see a red light behind the hopper on the lower left rear side of the cabinet with the door open?  If so, there should be a reset bar just poking out under the hopper that will cancel that.

Sorry if I got the model wrong, If anyone can identify the correct model please let me know.

THANK YOU for pointing me in the right direction!!  There's a White button near the red light behind the hopper.  I pushed it and it started working.  I really appreciate your help!

Glad to hear that fixed your problem! ;D

I picked up my 873 from an auction for $100 as "non working" because the staff had hit a 777 jackpot and the machine shutdown.  The 873 has a metal lever that pushes the white reset button without having to remove the hopper.

to figure out the model, take a look for writing with black sharpie on the reel mech, the reel wiper boards and/or the lamp panel in the top compartment.

if you don't see anything, what is the code stamped into the slotted metal index disc on reel 1?    Also, there's an M-645-xxx number on the payout counter disc.

I'd guess it's an 831  ... probably a later version one.  Does your hopper have the plastic wiffle ball coin level detector in it?

the button you pushed is the safety delay mechanism.  If the hopper motor is running but no coins are being ejected due to empty hopper or fault in the coin out detection, the game will eventually shut down completely.  No lights except the red neon lamp next to the reset button.

a lot of the earlier games had a bar beneath the hopper with a red painted end you could push to reset the safety motor.  Some later games got rid of the bar so you had to pull the hopper out to access the reset button.

Thanks for your reply!  I know it has the wiffle ball in the hopper.  I'll have to go look for those markings later tonight.  Thanks for the info though!  I'll bet you're right about 831 based on pics I see on the web.

I assumed it was an 809 because I stumbled onto a lot with 4 mechanical slots and the 'guts' look the same as the 809s in the lot.  (I wound-up buying 8 machines from an estate- all were projects but I have two of the mechanical Ballys up & running).  I've been doing pinball for years but I'm a slot noob so I really appreciate the info you've shared!

if you haven't run across it already, there's a lot of slot paperwork on https://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/

the schematics will be pretty familiar to ya if you've worked on bally EM pinballs ... and they are a lot simpler on the slots :-)

the basic schematic for a model game is usually pretty much the same for all the variants of the model - a common difference is when the bell rings.  If you find a schem with the same game type/reel symbols (fruit, jackpot only, etc.), then the reel wiring will be very close between them with minor variations for differing payouts.
