Bally 5500. 83F Error
« on: December 05, 2023, 05:10:16 AM »
Once again I turn to the experts. I purchased this machine in a lot with 2 others.  Like the others, this one had a dead battery. (The other 2 were IGTs and are up and running with new batteries).  This machine is a 5500 with an 81 error. I cut out the battery and soldered in a new one.  I went through and read every clear procedure I can think of. I powered up holding the pseudo and test hard enough that I still have button imprints on my fingers. Got 83F. I put the jumper on the pins to clear..(2 pins in right corner for clear).. still goes to 83F.  I double checked battery voltage, and I'm at 3.6. Made sure battery  jumper pin was set. No matter what combination I'm trying...goes directly to 83F and stays there. All the button lights are flashing. The bill validator cycles wvery time I power up, but just can't get past 83F.  Saw a guy on ebay selling 5500 clear chips 12 & 15..but my board has those chips installed. When I picked the machines up, the guy told me that all the machines were running not that long ago.
Should I replace the clear chips that are on the board? I'm not an expert on Bally..so I'm at a loss what to do. Any help or advice would be appreciated

See if the battery voltage is reaching the 2 RAM chips.
Remove the board from the metal tray  and look a the pads on the bottom of the board that connect the battery.
You may find one tiny thin trace that goes to a battery pad is broken right at the pad.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.
