3802 board question
« on: January 05, 2024, 03:53:43 PM »
What does this key switch do on this boar.  I never had a key so was unable to try.  I now want to remove it.  Ho do I do it?  Do I connect the wires or just remove them.

I have not seen thi on any other post and I am baffled.

On early game king software it was used to access privileged menus.  Keychips replaced the keyswitch in later software versions.  If you don't have a key for it and have never used it then you probably don't need it.  Just disconnect the connector, and remove the switch from the tray.

Thanks Tilt!  What keychip should I buy and whom do you recommend I buy it from.  From a 3802 board what is my maximum upgrade potential?  would it be a 3902 board?

Best thing to do is power the game up, press the MPU self test button, then touch Accounting -->Program Version Information.  After a 15 - 20 seconds or so the screen will populate with the game software numbers.  The two needed are the M00XXXX and G00XXXX numbers.  With those we can tell you what Keychip you need for the game software you have.  RB is the man to deal with for the Keychip.

If I recall from another post you made you have an older 19" Game King cabinet?  If so, then yes, 3902 is as good as you're going to get with it.  IGT didn't make an upgraded 044 motherboard for the old 13 and 19" Game King cabinets.

It’s been long time since I messed around with a game king but I seem to recall you can wire in a toggle switch in place of that key switch if you don’t have the key.  I still have a 13” GK in storage that I had done that to as it had an older version of software that I would access the privilege menu.

That looks like a 3502 3802 board, which is also what I have.

The key lets you access Privileged Options, such as setting the clock and putting the machine into tournament mode.

I'll post some pics or maybe a video.

It's a 3802.  3802 boards have a connector for the add on sound card.  3502's do not.

Thanks  everyone for your input!  So could I just short together those two wires and not use a key chip?  Or can I gain more access to other settings with the proper key chip.

Tilt I will get those two numbers latter this week when I get back to the machine.

Thanks Tilt I will research the difference of the two boards cause I now know which board I have and see if it is worth upgrading.

Does my picture show what game software I am using?

Thanks again!

Possibly.  It all depends what game software is installed on the board,  Can't tell from your photos because the information needed wasn't written on your game eproms.

The numbers I asked for will give us the information needed to answer your question.

Here's the Privileged Options menu (under SETUP) when you turn the key on the MPU — at least for G0000124, which is Game King 3.0.

I find it odd that this menu is where you set the clock, but maybe there were security concerns back then?

Yes indeed they are.  You need Key 17 for your game software.  The keyswitch isn't needed, so you can remove it if you like.  RB is the man to contact for the Keychip.

It doesn't specify a particular GK version, but here's the games on it.

Thanks again every one for all of your help.

So if I have this straight...I cannot modify the odds of each game I can only pick certain family's that have "preset" odds for each game?  And for Blackjack I do not have the option to disable let it ride features and double down etc..? :nerd:

I would like to set it up to make it more difficult to win.  Seems like when anyone plays they almost always win up to big amounts.  I would like to decrease the odds so that others can also get a turn to play. :garfield:

What does tournament mode do? :thank_you:

Smoothgrh

saw on earlier post that you were inquiring about upgrading your 3802 to a 3902 board.  Did you ever get that to work and if so what did that do to improve your game experience?

Hey Flexonguy, when I first bought my Game King, it came with a 3502 board and 4.x software (the standard 2142 game). I didn't upgrade the board, but rather just bought 3902 boards and learned how to swap them out. Later, I went back to the original board and got the Game King 3.0 game software that was likely originally made for the 3502. I also wanted to know what that key was supposed to do!

Hope that's not too confusing!  :rotfl:
