Bally e 1000 battery

I just picked up a couple of Bally e 1000 machines and the mpu's don't have batteries in them ? What type of battery do they use 3volt? 3.6 volt? and does it make a difference what type battery and will the game play without one ? thanks for the help in advance

The batteries are 3.6 volt NiCd, you can use a LiOn but I would suggest removing the 100 ohm resistor located at
R1 and replace it with a 1N4001 diode.

The battery is only used to hold accounting data so is not needed, however if the machines are progressive
machines then it is best to have the battery installed.
