Hi guys,  I'm having an issue with the monitor in my mk6 machine.  It is giving a clicking noise and not turning on. Im open to having a go at repairing it but my preference would be to swap the whole thing out for a working monitor for the moment.

I'm located in Sydney and willing to travel to pick one up.

Thanks

Sounds like the capacitors have failed.

Could be a bad power supply.
Can’t handle the load and is resetting-restarting.

Possibly.  There are 3 x 220uf 250v caps on the monitor chassis and one is clearly buldging....

These caps don't seem too easy to find here

Could be a bad power supply. Can’t handle the load and is resetting-restarting.

Could also be this.  I have a second mk6 here with a working monitor so i should probably start a process of elimination and swap some parts

Id still like to get my hands on a working 19" CRT unit though

You should look for flat screen monitors.
I have two MK VI with flat screens, they
are easy on power supply’s and help the
game run cooler.

I'm assuming these are the mains filter caps, hopefully none of the smaller ones have failed as sometimes they can fall under the radar when recapping and then fail afterwards, as what happened when I recapped a Hisense LCD TV a few years ago (a few of the previously good caps bloated the year after and took out a bunch of MOSFETs with them).

Jaycar would probably have them if you have one in your area, although the caps they stock are usually cheap Chinese ones which are under-specced (sometimes it's better to go the next one up in these cases e.g. 330µF). If not there's always Digikey, they also stock the better cap brands such as Rubycon. I would steer well clear of caps on eBay, most of them tend to be fakes.

Is the machine a MK6 Xcite or a MK5/MVP? They are two different beasts when it comes to CRT monitors. Xcite monitors are basically PC CRTs whereas MK5s are arcade style monitors (obviously 31KHz due to the medium res).

Yep its a ceronix 2093 chassis on a 19" tube.  Arcade style.  I'm pretty sure its an mk6 which was converted from an mk5.

I have an mk5 next to it with an identical but working monitor

If you did a recap on that chassis and changed out the video output #192 you should have a pretty good chance of bring it back to life. I think the video output is #192 on that chassis. It is on the 1492 Ceronix chassis.

Ok cool.  I'll swap in a working power supply first and if that does nothing I'll re cap it.

Thanks for the info guys I'll post an update when i make progress

you can use any 19 inch screen and make your own brackets
you just wont have the touch screen but you don't need the touch screen on all games

Thats what i had assumed, i sourced one from an IGT machine and it said unsupported resolution, can we just use normal computer monitors?
