pot-o-gold did not come with supervisor key
« on: February 04, 2024, 01:56:16 PM »
Hello, my first post on here.  I've had this pog machine for about 10 years.  I'm flipping pin 8 and successfully getting into the main setup screen, but I just hear the <womp womp> tone when I click on some of buttons.  I'm trying to add\remove a couple games, like I don't need 2 Shamrock 7's and 3 Blackjacks.

Apparently I'm supposed to hold the Supervisor or Red Key down for this, but I see nothing.  I found on an archive newlife site that there's a 3-pin connector where the Supervisor switch would plug in if I had one.  OR, I could

"once you find the key switch or 3-wire plug to cross with paper clip to enable access to the full options of board"
https://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=24428.0

I'm attaching a pic, I think I've found it, white\green\black wires.  But does anyone know what to cross?  Sounds like a bad option, but I'm stuck.

Thanks in advance !

Probe for voltages with a multimeter first, on those 3 wires.
One of those pins inside the housing is ground (-)

OK, I have a meter, not real familiar with it or how to do the test you mention.  But, I set it for continuity and tested all 3 nodes (with one probe from my meter grounded).  The middle/green wire dropped to zero, the others had no reaction.  So I think green is the ground.  Does that sound right ?

Continuity does not measure voltages.
Set your multimeter to 20 or 200 volts direct current (vdc).
Seei f your probing registers anything.

Stick red probe into white, black onto green pin.
Next, stick red into black keeping black probe on the green pin.
If your multimeter shows a "1", set it onto 200 volts alternating current (vac) and see what you get.

Ok, I did DC and AC both, here are the results:

DCV 20
Black Probe \ Green Pin and Red Probe \ Black Pin
Nothing

Black Probe \ Green Pin and Red Probe \ White Pin
Nothing or Negative (kind of bounced around)

-------------------------------------------------------------

ACV 200

Black Probe \ Green Pin and Red Probe \ Black Pin
.1

Black Probe \ Green Pin and Red Probe \ White Pin
122.1

Thanks Again.

okay.. now you know those wires are for either a printer or a bill acceptor that would need household current.
That's high voltage coming out at around 122 volts AC.
I'm glad you didn't stick a paper clip in there!...haha

Your supervisor wires are somewhere else.
Can you show us a high resolution photo of the wires connected to the main game board?
Also, give me the exact model & name of the main board so I can find a manual and pinout of the game board connector harness.
Some of these machines have the same sort of connector and the pin connections are the same.

Ok good I didn't let any of the magic smoke get out haha.  Here's a bunch of pics, let me know if any other shots may help.  I tried to show anything else loose I could find in there.  It does have functioning bill reader and 'disabled' printer (home use only).

Also attaching a pinout map I found from an old discussion if it's actually the correct one, they were saying pin14\solder side was the supervisor key, but then the conversation cut off.

There are two posts after this one with attachments:

okay...you can see on the pinouts that pin#1 is ground.
Pin#1 is on the component side of the board...the top side.

On the bottom, pin A is opposite of Pin#1.
The ground wire should be black?
Locate that pin#1 or Pin A on the big 28-pin connector...just so you know how to find other pin numbers.
The last pin should be marked 28 or a small "f".

Pin R on the bottom is the ground pin for the Diagnostic key button.
Put a piece of tape on that wire...mark it "Diag"....follow that wire.
It will go somewhere in your machine to a switch button possibly?
The other wire on that button will be the ground wire...probably a black wire?

Now...Pin#18 on top is the Attendant Key switch pin.
Put some tape on that and mark it "ATT"...follow that wire...it should end up somewhere near the a key switch on your cabinet.
The wire on the other tab of the key switch will be the ground wire.

Son of a gun.  I traced both, not too bad but I killed all my cable management ties.  Switches are there the whole time, just didn't look like a key or button or anything.  Check out the pics, those red thing press down, top is supervisor switch, bottom is the attendant switch.

I can't think you enough for your help!!!

I'll do a final post with all the options I find to muck around with.

Thank You !
