WMS Big Bang Piggy Banking
« on: June 06, 2018, 05:39:58 PM »
Hello, new to the forums although I I have visited often.  I just got the machine replaced the battery and good to go.  Couple of questions though.  The reals seam a little noisey going around, would it be ok to spray a little silicone spray on them? Also really dumb question, can't seem to figure out how to remove the cash box from the side.  Tons of IGT videos out there but can't find anything on Google.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Assuming this is a WMS-40X dotmation machine (if it isn't let us know).....

I don't know if spraying lube onto the reel stepper motor will help. You could try applying a little light oil to the motor shaft. Also, there is a setting in the setup/preferences that will let you slow the speed of the spinning reels, that will quieten them some, I'd try that first. The reels will still spin fast, just not super fast.

The cash storage box on a WMS-40x machine has locking mechanisms on the left and right sides. You can take something like a credit card or gift card and slide into the space between the cash box and the compartment wall to push the locking "fingers" out of the way. Then pull that side of the cash box forward. Next do the same thing to the other side and the cash box will come out.

A lot of people leave the cash box out of the machine. The bills will simply drop in to the cash compartment. There is a security switch on the bottom surface of the cash compartment, just put some shipping tape or duct tape across the security switch so it doesn't pop up thru the slot and cause a fault. Or you can disconnect the wires going to the security switch. If you don't mind removing the cash box with a credit card then that will work also.

In the 3rd photo below you can see the locking "fingers" on each side of the cash compartment. These are what to press out of the way to remove the cash box.

WMS Big Bang Piggy Bankin coin jam
« Reply #2 on: June 07, 2018, 05:10:58 PM »
Thanks, that worked great.  You're correct it is a WMS 40x.  I opted to remove the cash box and tape down the sensor.  I have yet to try oiling the reels or slowing them down yet.
One other question if possible.  The coin check light is lit, however the opening is only enough to allow for 1/3 of the quarter to go in.  At first I thought maybe the denom got set to nickel, but inserting a dollar gives 4 credits so that can't be it.  I bought it from a relative who said the quarters worked prior to the battery going bad.  The machine sat for a couple of years unused.  Any way to adjust it or thoughts as to what the issue could be.  Thanks!

I'm not following what your question is exactly? Don't know what you mean by "coin check light", can you post a photo of it?

Do you mean the coin "head" or coin entry bezel (the chrome piece on the right side of the play pushbutton panel where you insert coins) is not letting quarters enter when you insert them? Since it used to work with quarters before then I'd think the coin entry is correct for quarters. Maybe there is a coin jam in the coin comparitor. Post a photo what you think is the problem and we can go from there. The coin comparitor is located on the inside of the main door, just below where the coins drop thru from the coin head above.

That's correct the coin comparitor.  Looks as though it's spring loaded but the quarter just sit atop of it.  If I manually move it from inside the door, the coin drops out. Having issues uploading the pictures.

It sounds like you do not have a sample coin in the coin comparator.  If you want it to accept quarters, you must put a quarter in the comparator for the device to compare incoming coins to it.  If there is no sample coin in place, incoming coins will jam at the top of it.

The following video (not mine, just one I found) shows how to put a quarter sample coin into the comparator:

knagl is right, if your relative or someone else removed the quarter from the coin comparitor then you need to put one in there, it won't work without it. That quarter is called the "sample" coin. Slide the sliding cover in the direction of the arrow (to the right), place a quarter in there with its left edge in the coin groove, then let the sliding cover move back to the left as far as it will go. Without a sample quarter installed the sliding cover will move so far to the left that it will block the coin path.

When uploading photos they need to be 1mb filesize or less. Try setting your camera to its smallest photo size. For problems like this photos can really help save time to figure out what is going on.

Here's the link to the video showing how to install the sample coin:

Again, worked great thanks for the support.  Somethings are so simple sometimes.  I'm missing the sticker with the arrow..  Also there was one coin in the hopper after a difficult move from my relatives second floor.  Never would have thought it was a sample for the coin comparitor.  Thanks again.  Time to enjoy the machine.

If you want to try slowing the reels to reduce the noise they make it is fairly easy to do. You open the main door, then press the TEST/Setup pushbutton located on the card cage door. Then you step thru a few menu steps while watching the "Credit" display on the front of the machine until you get to the step that says "SpEEd" setting. The setting shown in the "Win Meter" display will say "nned" which means "med" (medium speed). Next you press the Spin Reels button to change it to say "Slo".  Then press the TEST button on the card cage door once more to save the setting and close the machine's main door. The machine will initialize and be ready to play.

The reel speed setting is early in the TEST menu steps, so don't go too fast thru the steps or you will go past it. If you do just keep pressing the TEST button and it will eventually start all over in the sequence. Also, the digital displays on the front of the machine are designed to display numbers, not alphabetic letters, so when letters are shown they won't look perfectly readable, sometimes you will have to look at them a bit to figure out what they are saying.

I adjusted the reel speed to SLO, much quieter.  Thanks again.  I did run across a post about disabiling the side meters.  Not a huge deal but may be my next endeavor with
 the machine.

I use that "Slo" setting too, it isn't all that slow and besides being quieter it adds a little anticipation as I see each reel settle on a symbol one at a time at a speed my mind can react to. Of course, the default setting is the faster spin speed because the casino wants those spins to complete as fast as they can. On any casino game (which is just about everything in the casino, including the working girls at the bar) the faster you play the more money you usually lose.

I *think* the meters are sensed, so if you simply unplug the cable going to the meter board (located above the cash compartment) the machine will give an error. Is this the message you saw about silencing the meters?

Rokgpsman is correct. The machine will fault if you just unplug the meters. I have made these bypass plugs up for members on the site before. If you are interested I can see if I have any extra parts around to make one for you. Just let me know.
