Coin Diverter
« on: February 05, 2018, 01:33:29 PM »
I have looked for a basic explanation of how the diverter works and have found some info on it. This is my first machine so I have been flying blind. When the machine turns on the solenoid does not activate. That little flapper is hanging straight down. When coins are dropped into the machine, they sometimes go to the hopper and sometimes go to overflow but half the time they get stuck in the diverter. Is there supposed to be a return spring in the solenoid or on the mechanism? When I clear the coins by manually activating the diverter linkage, the linkage is loose, floppy loose. Sorry to be a pain. Thanks for any help!

Post a photo or two showing your coin diverter. As you say, the diverter should move by spring action to one position, then when the solenoid activates it pulls the diverter to the opposite position. This is to send the inserted coin to either the hopper or the coin overflow chute which sends the coin to a bucket under the machine inside the stand.

You should be able to manually move the diverter back and forth to see if it is binding or gummed up. But it shouldn't be so floppy loose that it can change positions on its own. Since you are not likely to ever have a hopper full of coins you could just disconnect the diverter solenoid wire and tie the diverter into position so all coins go to the hopper.

Someone here with the same model machine as you (S2000?) may be able to tell from your photos if there is a spring or other part missing from your diverter.

What happened is when I was pulling out the CC, I slightly bent the outside metal plate which is one side of the diverter chute. Once I figured this out, it was bent back in to close the gap and now works fine, sending the coins into the hopper. It would appear the solenoid will activate once the hopper is full and then send the coins into overflow. This sounds opposite from what I have read elsewhere that the solenoid activates when the machine is turned on to send coins into the hopper. I will post a couple of pictures tomorrow. Thanks for all the help!

I think different models of machines do it one way or the other. By my way of thinking the default diverter position should be to send coins to the hopper with the diverter solenoid not activated. That would save noise and some electricity usage. Then if the hopper gets full it should activate the diverter to send coins to the overflow. But either scheme works.
