Cat / pet hair effects on slot machine
« on: May 30, 2018, 09:59:00 PM »
It's shedding season at my house and car hair is flying everywhere, I have two slot machines an IGT s2000 Double Diamond slot machine and a IGT Series M 1986 slot machine. I am wondering is there and recommendations on preventing cat hair from getting into any openings of the machines? My biggest concern is cat hair jamming up the reel mechanics or shorting out any circuit boards, thank you

I don't think that's anything major to worry about. If your slot machine has a cooling fan that draws air in from the room you can check the fan's grill cover to make sure it isn't getting clogged with fur and dust bunnies. The hair is dry so it shouldn't cause a problem if some lands on a circuit board. Be careful about using a vacuum cleaner inside a slot machine on a circuit board, the rapidly moving air and the brush bristles can generate lots of static voltage and damage electronics. They make cans of compressed air that are probably ok to use.

What about spraying the cat with hair spray to keep the fur on them?    :garfield:

Looooooooooooooooooooooool  :24: All I can imagine is hair spray all over my cats and I just can't see shaving my cats, I won't use a vacuum cleaner on my slot machine and I will check the fan :) Now all I can think about is hair growing out of my slot machine and my slot machine turning into a cat itself lol

I’ve got 2 cat and 2 dogs here and never have had an issue pet hair in my games. I guess a lot dupends on two things.. First are your slots in stands or the floor? If on the floor then yes maybe, on a stand no.. Second do you allow your cats to plays the slots? 🐆
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

Machines in the casinos see a lot more issues than dog / cat hair.
People pour drinks into the machines, ash from cigarettes etc.

When you get an unshopped machine there is often a growth inside - better known as Casino Funk ....

If there are any obvious tufts - simply remove them and slot on....
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Most of the pet hair and room dust settles to the floor, so like Amechanic said if you can get your machine up off the floor onto a stand it would likely stay cleaner. And it might be more enjoyable for you to play if it is at eye level when you are sitting. I think the usual height of a stand is somewhere around 22 inches.

You might be able to find a sturdy end table at a used furniture store or flea market place that you can use as a stand. Or you or a friend can make a stand out of strong wood material, it's a fairly easy project, you can paint or stain it to make it look nicer. There are posts here with instructions and descriptions about people that made their own stands, some had photos and measurements. When deciding on a stand keep in mind the machine probably weighs about 200-250 pounds, so you want something that is strong enough for that.

Here are a couple of How-To guides:

And there are several other postings about ideas for stands that slot owners have come up with. Check out the NLG Slot Stand discussion area (board #40):
