Game King Sound and Hopper Issue
« on: June 28, 2020, 01:38:44 PM »
Recently inherited a Game King model 96407600.

Had to replace the CMOS battery, but the sound and the hopper are not working (not sure if they ever did when my uncle had it)

Both appear to be enabled in the software.  I've checked all obvious connections, fuses, etc.
Appears to have a "3802" board.
Any troubleshooting steps would be appreciated.

Also, which key chip would be required to change some of the config?  From what I've read here, maybe the "17" chip or the "40".

Thanks all!

You have an older 3802 board.  Your game software is Game King 4.3 and it uses Key 17.  Your hopper may be disabled in the setup menu, if it is you will need a key to enable it.  As far as you sound problem goes move those two eproms around.  SND1 should be in socket U6 and SND2 should be in U7.  That will probably fix it.

Thanks Tilt.
Swapped the sound chips around, no luck.
Hopper shows enabled in the setup.

Any idea on a replacement sound board?  Part number?

I'd check with member Badbaud, they may have one.  Just let him know it's for an older 3802 MPU board.  Before you do, I'd trace out the speaker wires and make sure they're not damaged and connected properly.  Also check the game volume level too to make sure it isn't turned all the way down.

Try running the diagnostic test on the hopper and see if it works that way or not.  When you do the test it should run out 10 coins.

What is your hopper limit set at? You must have zero credits on the machine to make changes to the limits.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

Thanks RB.
Hopper test was successful (thanks Tilt)
Limits were set to 0...was able to change only the "Quick Coin Amount", but that allowed it to kick out the coins....yay!

So, now only the sound issue remains (all volume levels are set correctly, they are not OFF)
Sound tests all fail...no errors, just no sound...wires all look good...will try to find another speaker to test with later.

Thanks

One down one to go.

Actually you'll get basic sounds (rollup, card dealing, winning hand, etc) even without the sound board being installed. Do you have a 13" or 19" cabinet?

Tilt, here is a pic of the cabinet.
Not sure what you are measuring...cabinet is 19" wide, monitor is like 14" ?5

Tried a different speaker for the sound issue.
Also pulled the sound board off, powered up the machine, no sound.  Put board back in, no sound.

Thanks for the pics, they're helpful.  The wires for the door optics and sound are on the the connector I circled in red.

You have a 13" cabinet.  It's determined by the monitor size.  They have a 14" monitor but about 13" visible.  19" cabinets are much larger, heavier, and have some differences that's why I was asking.

The audio should be on the wht/grn and grn/wht wires.  If it's missing there then the problem is on your MPU board.  If that's the case you're better off upgrading to a 3902 MPU board rather then messing around with the older 3802 board.  They're pretty cheap and you can upgrade some newer SIMM based software too if you wanted to.
