Sega "New Olympia" slot machine... How Old???
« on: July 13, 2015, 05:06:34 PM »
I just brought this home. It's heavy! The back door lock was drilled out so I just popped the back off to find what looks like an old or old style Mills mechanism. The only thing electric is what looks like a solenoid on the inside. It has mechanical "skill stop" buttons. I have no idea what kind of coin this was made  for - obviously foreign I'd think.  I tried quarters, nickles and tokens from a converted Bally Game Maker but they just dropped through.
I was able to just hold the coin detector lever thing (sorry my mechanical slot terminology is awful!) and pull the handle. The machine spins and I can stop the reels but it didn't pay off when I set it to three bars. I'm not sure if that back had to be on though for it to pay and I believe there's something in the coin tube. I didn't have much time to fiddle with it yet, but I'm headed back home soon.
Anyone know what the heck model this is? I looked on the Sega slot web site but this one wasn't listed anywhere. The case is sold as a rock... it appears to be oak and metal!

I finally got some of the tokens out. They look like 50 cent pieces ish! It spins and stops but won't pay out. I though the pay outs here were entirely mechanical so I'm not sure. I'm cleaning the slides that are gummed up.
The mechanism looks very "Mills-ish" and is nickle plated! I'm not sure what I want to do with this.

I fixed a Sega that used dimes. It was mechanical  Mills , no electrical other then lights. I had to lube every pivot point and moving parts from the coin entry mech and all the way to the payout . I liked the challenge.

I took out the mechanism again and just looked everywhere for anything out. I still think there's more gunk in the slides so I'll go through them tomorrow. I did notice a spring just dangling there and, for the life of me, I can't see where it goes. The only thing close is a bracket that "notches" in to the back of the three reels once they're stopped - but there's nothing there to attach it to, unless it fell out.
Sorry for the crappy cell shot. My index finger is pointing to the spring.
