Bally 1088-34
« on: January 06, 2021, 08:48:20 PM »
I have a Bally 1088-34 that started acting up the other day. The handle will not release. The first coin will rest the (coin in) too (1) on the display and the total coin in counter will increase. adding addition coins had no affect on the display but the total coin in counter will increase with each additional coin. If I manually trip the handle release solenoid the reels will spin but no payout if its a winner.
I have cleaned the contacts and reseated the reels several times with no change.  Any ideas on what else I need to be checking?

Thank you

a work-in-progress schematic is on http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/1088-34

the total-in meter incrementing is often helpful is eliminating a bunch of circuits as a potential problem, but on the -34 not so much ... just means the coin unit reset relay is working when the handle release relay is untripped and the coin unit step-up relay is working after the handle release relay trips.

the three things that could cause the handle release relay to not trip AND payout not work are:

1] coin switch
2] reel mech A-1 switch
3] reel mech C-1 switch

diagnostics:
-------------

1] coin switch

reset machine and manually trip the handle release.  Cycle game with coin switch.  If the coin unit steps up to advance number of coins played, the coin switch is ok

[2-3]

you'll just need to inspect the two switches when the reels are doing nothing ... i.e. when you pull the reel mech and look.  Both should be closed.

The circuit diagram is below and switch locations/description is:
- orange/green wire 74-1 goes to a blade on the A switches (left side of reel mech, vertical stack of switches nearest back)
- orange/red wire 71-6 to reel mech C switches (vertical stack on left side of reel mech closer to the middle)
- brown wire 60-1 leaves reel mech C-1 and feeds circuit to handle release and payout

Check the switches on the left side of the reels mechanism.
Particularly the coin relay switch.

Has the machine been sitting for awhile and or is it in a room where the temperature is very cool?
If the machine has been sitting for more than a month or in a cool environment.
The switches may malfunction.

If the machine worked properly the last time it was played.
Then most likely it is from sitting, contacts will develop a coating from oxidation.
Or hardened lubricant will diminish the operation of the machine.
Inspect and make sure all moving parts move freely.
Sometimes a simple nudge of the hopper and reel mechanism will reseat the beau plugs
as to complete a circuit.

I have a 1088 and if it sits for a long time, sometimes it takes a while for it to payout.
Also the payout counter won’t reset right away.
The first thing I do is to nudge the reel and hopper chassis’s in and out about 1/4 inch.
