Bally 873. overpay
« on: March 19, 2021, 09:44:30 AM »

My Bally 873-A (photo 1) is a good machine.
Sometimes I must repair or adjust something...but it‘s not bad.
Now I can‘t solve a overpay issue and need your help.
When the machine should pay out a 7coin avard combo, it pays out between 7 and 16 coins.
(7 coin combo...2 straight cherry’s on 3rd line by playing  with 5 coins,... see picture 2)
I think the problem has todo something with the area on picture 3.
I already cleand this area, but it wouldn’t get better.

Could anybody help me with this problem?

Thank you,
Chris

if you're having trouble posting pictures because they are too big, email them to slotpics@cdyn.com and I'll scale them down and post them.  [edit: this was done]

the paperwork for the machine is on http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/

two things to check:
1] when payout is done, where are the wipers on the payout counter.  If they are at the correct place for the payout, but you got paid too many coins, see if the payout counter is not stepping reliably when a coin exits the hopper.  The 873-A is a mechanically stepped.

2] if the payout counter wipers are are at an appropriate place for the number of coins ejected, check the alignment of the reel wipers on the contact plates.  Make sure the wiper contacts aren't bridging rivets.

Photo of a wiper board.
As Wolftalk stated,
if the wiper is out of adjustment its possible for it to make contact with more than one rivet.

Pull the wipers back as to line up 3 oranges, plumbs or whatever is the medium payout.
Then inspect the contacts over the rivets for alignment.
If they’re near the center, not hanging off one side. Then no adjustment is needed.

But just to be safe check all the stop position.

david, what do you think of his zero stop?  Something looks wrong:

- zero switch gap looks huge and probably wouldn't close after first step of unit
- assuming the payout counter is reset in the picture, the wipers aren't on the rightmost '2' trace

is the stop bumper missing?

Wolftalk,

Bumper appears to be missing allowing the cam to travel to far back.
The upper contact blade looks to be okay coming out of the stack.
Would have to step the unit to see if there is contact.
Also the circuit board could use a slight adjustment as the contacts are riding low on the trace.

Ok, i looked up all Stop positions at the reels- they are okey.

What exactly do you mean withe the „zero stop“ or the „zero switch“?
I think you are right wolftalk and the problem appears beacause the coin counter dosn‘t reset sometimes- but why?

the arrows in the pic below:
- purple : zero stop rubber bumper.  Is yours missing or too short (a piece cracked off) the spiral carriage/wipers will be rotated too far clockwise at reset.
- green : zero stop adjust screw.  Turn it to raise/lower the stop, which moves the reset position of the spiral carriage and affects the wiper reset position and the zero switch
- red : zero switch (your game doesn't have/need the upper switch).  This switch should close when the unit is stepped up once
- teal : wiper position at reset.  Your wipers are too far clockwise.  The fingers should be on the rightmost '2' trace, and step off all the '2' traces when the unit is stepped up twice

seems all the issues are related to the zero stop bumper.  If you can screw it down to move the wipers onto the '2' trace with the blue wire on it, then check:
1] when the unit steps up, one ratchet tooth is grabbed on the first step.
2] the wipers step off the ends of the traces on the step indicated on the trace number
3] the zero switch closes on the first step

With the wipers reset where they are, some wins won't detect and you'll get overpays on others because the wipers need to step extra times to get past the ends of the powered traces.  The wipers step once for every coin ejected.

Thanks for this exactly description.
Yes- I think the zero stop bumper could be the problem because it‘s very small already.
I will replace it and adjust the zero position exactly as you said it.
I hope it will solve my problem.

Thanks,
Chris

Not sure if this was mentioned.
Bumper stop can be made from pencil erase, 5/16 or 1/4 vacuum hose with the smallest diameter opening.

The original bumper is approximately 5/16 x 5/16.
