Thanks for the input guys..as I'm new...(and yeah probably hooked :duh: , i don't have time for the hobbies i have now lol) any information is greatly appreciated.
Amechanic...when i do a google search, using the 1097-4 I get a nickle machine..i also think it ref: nlg old web site and the post there. When I search by adding the -314 on the end I get nothing.
Fatman...can i ask what ref. you used to find that info? Esp. since you are saying the glass matches etc. there must be a pic of some kind?
I really like this style of machine..not much on the newer ones at all. Next summer the theater/game room is under way and a couple more wouldn't hurt, right? lmao. maybe a couple of smaller even older ones to sit on the ends of the bar?    :24:
Side note, and I'm sure I won't get a reply, but since i couldn't really find any info on this other than the nickle slot from the old forum, I sent an email and photos to Bally to see if I get a reply..probably won't but ya never know. I'm sure it's nothing special but knowing the history behind something is always cool.

btw, i just saw the number you listed in the Manual # 400 : Basic Standard now where to find that manual  :)

Liberty Belle Books has a small book "Bally Slot Machines" electro-mechanicals 1964 - 1980, with the basic machines, model # and year. They also have pics and thats where I referenced the info on your machine.

Dave, if you're saying its a 1964 model..then the 2-17-81 isn't the manufacture date? Or is it just an older case put together in 81 or refurbished? I don't want to beat this topic to death but I'm kinda the type that just "needs to know"  lol...thanks again.

Liberty Belle Books has a small book "Bally Slot Machines" electro-mechanicals 1964 - 1980, with the basic machines, model # and year..
This is the same book I have, and I don't see a model 1097 listed, heck I don't even see an EM MADE IN 1981? I believe the tag is correct, because if you look at the hopper and reels assembly, they both have the 1097 model number marked in them. You could have something rare, simply because it could have been made for Military Bases? I wonder if Bally remanufactured older machine and re-tagged them for our soldiers?  Hopefully Bally can shine some light on the matter..

IF  it was made for military use only, for example in the overseas clubs etc. there would have to be a "military specs" version/manual somewhere...god knows the gov./dod couldn't just have a simple off the shelf model....anyway, I ordered the book just now off amazon and will continue to search...thanks again everyone for all the input....and of course I will post if/what i find.

Yah, that model number just doesn't jive with the rest of the machine, but theres too much factory evidence to argue it really. I did notice the serial number inscribed in the reel mech doesn't match the tag exactly, but that's not a huge deal. It really does look like someone switched the tag (look at the nail/brad heads, they are hammered on, which only happens when you switch a tag). Plus the tag is totally crooked. Odd thing is, the 1000 series of model numbers was typically used for the large cabinets. I see the C652 stamped on the inside of the door, and that corresponds exactly with a Money Honey.

the tag actually is on straight. I cropped the picture and downsized it so the size wouldn't be so big to post. The rivets are smooth as well minus some rust.

I had a Navy Star before, so the information on the 1097 does make sence. That machine was also the size of the 742 but they had a yellowish color glass with a plexi topper.. It's looking more like a late model EM that was rebuilt and tagged by Bally, them put back out, or sold? They would have to put new tags in them at that time.

Here is an interesting article I'm sure some of you will enjoy reading just because it's about slots....http://www.ncpgambling.org/files/public/Military/DOD%20Report%20on%20Effect%20of%20Slots.pdf

Notice the statement on page 8 about the Army and Air Force removed all slots in July of 72 and because of demand resumed the project again in March of 80 and then expanded again in 83

My opinion (thou no were near the expertise of you all) this machine had new guts put in it and re tagged.

I'm afraid this is not a 1964 742.
  • Only a small number, less than 100, were made with that belly glass, and almost all of them were withdrawn and destroyed
  • Any original machine with that belly glass will have 110V electrics and the "white sides" star on the case
  • This cabinet has the internal metal lining, which was not introduced until the 1970s
In all my life I have seen exactly one original 742, and it was at the Bally factory. They are worth a fortune.
This is a reproduction, quite a nice one but still bogus. Model 1097 was introduced in 1976 so it's quite likely the 1980 tag is correct. It would never have been operated in the United States, because the reason the originals were withdrawn is that the belly glass with bogus jackpot coins was disallowed by the regulators.

Look at what I saw on FleaBay ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Bally-742A-Slot-Machine-Stand-/331401595096?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d291308d8
Has the right look to it.... a bit pricy I think. But I am not in the market to spend that kind of $$. Is this one legit?  :Scratch-Head: :Scratch-Head:

Thanks again everyone for the info! Fake/Real is all relative to me..It was fun fixing it and still fun to play. Always good to know the history of something like this and you guys know your stuff :) I go pick my mother up next week, she usually spends a week with us over Christmas, she has no idea I have this fixed, cleaned and working! Keep in mind, you are talking about a lady that LOVES slots and still goes a few times a month to play..this is a lady that after an evening at the casino her hands would look like she was digging potatoes from the real coin days  lol.. I can't wait to see the look on her face..glad I have some extra grease and oil, she's gonna wear it out

Thanks again everyone
