BB1 Randomly Rebooting
« on: February 25, 2020, 04:00:09 PM »

Hello. I am having an issue with a BB1 game that is randomly rebooting. It doesn't seem to matter if anyone is playing it or not; the thing will reboot whenever it feels like it. This issue has been happening for about a month and we have swapped the backplane board, a new CPU, printers, bill acceptors, etc. Can anyone recommend something that we might have overlooked? The game is in a bank of six and this is the only machine having this issue. I'd sure appreciate any help.

We did. However, upon closer inspection, the video board that was being swapped between CPUs seems to have some lightly burnt components on the underside of the board  :banghead:  We've placed a different video board in the CPU and the game seems to be behaving normally, for now. Thank you for the suggestion, though.

Monitor the temperature in the menus.

The worst ones are the machines with fans in smoking areas.

They clog up and don't cool boards down and stuff burns up.

Check your fans.

I've seen temperatures above a 100 degrees in these double-monitor games.

Those are ones with problems.

That machine is in a section of the casino that is reminiscent of a Grateful Dead concert, smoke-wise, lol. I'll keep an eye on the temperature for sure. The fans seem to be in fine condition for the time being. Thank you for the suggestions.

According to the maintenance manual I have for the BB2, the operating temperatue inside the cabinet is ideally 55ºC or 131ºF.  Surrounding ambient temperature is -10ºC to +35ºC, or 14ºF to 95ºF.  So looks like above 100 is fine as long as it doesn't go above 131ºF.  Also,  the temperature in the diagnostics menu is the temperature of the chip, and nothing else.  And yes, the fans are very important in keeping everything inside that box within the limits.  That's why the logic door is supposed to be in place to make sure air flow is correct.
