WMS BB3 Blade - Need Help!!!
« on: August 27, 2020, 03:48:01 PM »
Hey WMS Experts..  I really need some suggestions on how to get my Blade back up and running.  I have had it for a little over a year.  Worked perfect.  I noticed a few months ago that while it was running, it was periodically shut it self off and reboot.  Then it would come back on and be fine.  This started to happen after I pulled the power supply out to try in another machine.

As time went on the machines started having issues loading when it had been off for awhile.  The machine boots up and everything seems to be running fine.  just no video on the screen.  When this happens I also notice that the Tito is not getting power and it is plugged into the USB hub for its power source.  If I would power it down and back on a couple times, it would then finally load and everything would work fine.  Screens comes on and Tito lights up and I would be good to go.

The machine was moved to our new house a couple months ago.  It started doing the same thing but it would take much longer, of turning it on and off to finally get it to load.  Some times it would never load.  Sometimes it would start to load then shut itself off.  Then a week later it loads..  Crazy..  So here is what I have tried so far:

I tried another working CPU.  Same issue but both CPU's work fine in the other machine.  I also changed the batteries while doing this to make sure it wasn't something to do with that.  So not a CPU issue.

I switched the power supply with the other machine.  No luck, same issue.  I tried both power supplies in the other machine and they work fine.  So not a power issue.

I unplugged all the cables from the backplane and reconnected. just incase one of them worked itself loose.  No luck, same issue.

I searched the machine for any pinched wires that might be shorting something out.  No luck, everything that I can at least see looks fine.

I hope someone has had a similar issue in the past and can point me in the right direction.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Try switching the auxiliary power harness that plugs into the side of the mpu from the known working machine.

I just wanted to give an update.  I swapped the MPU Per harness from the working machine and still no luck.  Old harness works fine in the working machine.

I decided to swap out the backplane.  I had an extra one.  Once I did this, the machine booted up fine and I was able to play it.  I did notice that the sound was popping during the boot up.  I left the machine alone for a couple hours and noticed it started to reboot again.  Just like before when I started having the issue.  I even noticed that it was making the popping sound and then would reboot.

After it sat for about three hours it shut off and rebooted and the monitors did not show a picture.  So I am now right back to the same issue as before.  I have switched just about everything in this machine except for the Amp.  I ordered a new one so hopefully that might be the issue.  The Amp must be overheating and then tripping out the backplane.

I would unplug all peripherals from the backplane like validator, printer.  Basically anything that uses power that is connected to the backplane, that could be the cause of your popping sounds.  Something must be shorting out killing fuses on the backplane.  Does the "bad" backplane work on another machine without issues?

Maybe your power switch is bad. Also try a different power cord and plug the thing into a different electrical outlet. Preferably one on a different breaker.  The displays are powered from 12V or 24V as I recall, it’s possible that one of those is failing and overloading the power supply. Mr Hunter’s suggestion about unplugging peripherals is a good one but I suspect that if something is overloading the power supply that it uses a bit more power than the printer or bill acceptor.  Could be the audio amp, that thing is capable of pushing a lot of power through the speakers.
