Bally series E 2214 constant clanking sound when turning on.
« on: September 29, 2023, 12:14:37 PM »
Hey guys I am a fresh newbie owner of a Bally series E 2214 that was sitting in my parents garage for 25 years. When I turn it on I can play one spin. The reels just keep spinning so I opened it up and tried a test 3 and just got 3 code on the front. I am not sure what that means. Also sometimes when I try a test 1 I just get a constant clank sound from behind the reels. Adding a google photos link to a video of the problem. Any help would be greatly appriceated as I have no idea what I am doing but I want to learn.

Apologize, I won't be much help, but couldn't help notice how similar your machine is to mine.

Have you made any progress on your problems with spinning or that clank sound? To me, that sounds like a switch in the vicinity of the reels. I have a similar sound, but it only occurs once when locking the reels in prep for a spin. Possibly bad voltage or dirty contacts?

Do any of the other tests give odd results?

I'm not sure why your post wasn't noticed by anyone here.  :Scratch-Head: Normally someone would chime in much sooner.
Did you figure it out yet or still have the problem? Hopefully you still have the machine.

My first thought is dirty connections. These machines need to have clean connections or there will be issues. I’d start with the power supply as this is where the majority of problems stem from. Pull the power supply out and take a really good close look at the solder joints. They are most likely cracked. Check the plug housing pins. If there is any corrosion, those pins need to be replaced. Once those items are addressed, verify the voltages at the power supply test points. In addition to the electrical connections throughout the machine, after sitting so long, the reel mechanism will need attention. Clean and oil all moving, rotating parts. Let us know what you find.
