Bally EM 1096-57 payout isssues
« on: April 10, 2018, 08:04:02 AM »
I've been working on this  1096 for a while and can't seem to get it to payoff.
It accepts coins, reels spin and stop fine (winner paid and coin accepted lights work)
The "winner paid" light is light and never goes off.

I've played by inserting coins until it hits a winning combination.  Have manually stopped the reels in many winning combinations.  Has only paid off once or twice.

Need advise and where to start.

thanks

First thought would be the Payout relay is not being energized as to start the payout process.

It's possible that the payout disk or spiral cam is not returning all the way to zero to open the zero switch..
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

Bob, need some information first: where is the payout counter located?  on the hopper or by itself?  the fact that the winner paid lamp stay on all the time is a clue. usually that switch is located on the payout counter disc (behind the disc, near the reset coil) when the action of the reset coil firing will reset that switch.

basically here is how the machine works. IT IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THE MACHINE IS WORKING FINE FOR ONE COIN, INCLUDING PAYOUTS. when a coin is inserted, it falls through the coin mech, travels into the coin switch trip wire, when it travels through this trip wire,  on the down ward stroke, it resets any coin multiplier coils to cancel the previous play, and energize the coin relay and its associated switches (coin accept lamp for one) also sets up a circuit to the handle release coil, on the upward stroke of the trip wire it will energize the handle release coil and will allow the handle to be pulled. when the handle is pulled it sets in motion all the "B" and "C" switches on the left side, at some point when these switches open and close in the cycle they will reset the payout counter to get ready for a potential win as  the reels come to a stop. during all this action a ground wire is setting at the reel wiper boards, if a winning combination is achieved then that ground will work it way across each set of wiper fingers and exit the last set of wiper fingers and travel down to the field contact (grey wire) on the wiper fingers on the payout out counter disc, this ground will then travel over to the payout relay on the hopper and will turn on the hopper motor, as the hopper motor begins to turn , it starts to present coins to the top of the hopper roller arm, the coins pass through the roller arm and this action pulses the count up coil on the payout counter disc, as the coil is pulsed it starts to count using the white toothed wheel to advance one spot for each pulse, this action causes the wiper fingers to advance one space, as the coins are dispensed the wiper continues to move until the field contact ground is lost,(for five coins, the wiper will fall off the wiper contact after the fifth pulse) which will turn off the payout relay, which in turn will turn off the motor. Pretty easy concept.  This should give you an idea of how everything interacts.

I found that the plunger on the payout counter was not returning it proper location after all payouts.  Also the 100 tooth gear was real sluggish (adjust spring to increase tension, now returns quickly and smoothly).   I also think some of the contacts on the left side of reel assemble where dirty and not making good contact (cleaned w/business card).

Checked all payouts for 1, 2 or 3 coins and ALL worked/paid out correctly.  Winners Paid comes on after payout and goes out when 2nd reels stops on next pull (I believe this is how it should work too).

thanks guys
Bob
