IGT Electronic DC Ballast question...
« on: October 18, 2016, 06:13:17 PM »
Can these be fixed or is it just better to toss it and get a new one?
This is in IGT ballast for F15T8 lights from a Game King. The F15T5 is out as well. I put both in different units to verify that both were kaput!

Those seem to go bad frequently. I have had several bad ones. I think it would not be worth it to try fixing, they are very cheep to purchase.http://www.ebay.com/itm/S2000-Game-King-I-Game-Slot-Machine-F15T8-DC-Fluorescent-Bulb-Ballasts-Lot-of-6-/252310397802?hash=item3abedf236a:g:0O8AAOSwGvhUAjDY

I thought so... I already bought the upper one for the F15T5 - still hunting for the other. I may message that seller. I don't need 6, just 1.
Thanks though for answering. Still I'm curious what goes bad in those? I wonder if it's heat related.

They get hot and die. Just think how many hours they were on in the casinos 24/7... Being closed up in the machines doesn't help. I'm sure if you contacted the seller they would be able to help you out

Those are actually very easy to fix, only a few components go bad.  Could probably get everything for about a dollar, and take about 10 minutes to replace components if you're handy with a soldering iron.

Or switch to LED's and be done with it. The added benefit of reduced cabinet heat doesn't hurt either...

And no UV to fade strips/glass/legends and they use less power too.

This dollar fix is getting more expensive...  :rotfl:

Actually that's very tempting for my machines in the room, which can really get hot in there when just two or three machines are running.

But back to the topic... what parts are usually the culprits? Voltage regulators? And what's the polymer fuse? I heard they go out by heat but should "go back" when cooled down. Or do they "stick" and just die?
