Vision Diamond Mine Bunch of error codes upon start up. What to do ?

Here's the sequence :  Open and turn on, then see Displays Netplix Down,  Waiting for the Video Display, wait 2 min, Call Att., Restart, BV Comm Failure, Closure M,  on the upper display it says There is a problem.....Please call att. , the winner paid, credits,and coins played windows light up and show expected numbers  Then if I press the tiny white button up comes " 1 accounting ".  I close the door and the reels go around. The Bet One,  Credit Etc buttons get lit but the upper display still has the same call att. message.I press Bet One and the machine plays and 10 seconds later the upper display comes on the way it should and the machine plays well.
   Shut the machine off for 1 minute or one day and the same long  routine starts again. The guy had it this way for months. His wife left him.  He rejoiced and was exceedingly glad.  What little solution will fix this depressing machine ?

I'd start by checking the batteries on both the lower MPU and the CPU in the top box computer
