Noob questions about IGT Little Green Men machine.
« on: January 17, 2019, 03:02:31 PM »
So I recently purchased this machine. Everything works.I'm trying to find out what is involved with swapping out the game.
Specifically if I purchased a board with 'Alien' on it, is it as simple as just swapping out the boards?
Do I need a ram clear chip or anything?

as long as it is on a 3902 board you could swap boards, but you would have to do a full setup each time you swapped.  if you can get a 2nd EEprom (8 pin chip that goes on the motherboard) and keep each one with the same mpu(gameboard) you can swap without having to worry about key chipping it every time.

What is key chipping? Does that have to do with having a ram clear chip?

Yes, you will need a keychip to set certain options after swapping games.  If you get an EEPROM for each game as wiseone suggested then you won't have to use the keychip each time, but will still need one to set up the new EEPROM for the first time.  It's good to have one anyhow as the battery will eventually die and you'll need one set the machine back up after you replace it.  Luckily both Alien and LGM use Key 22 so you will be OK with just the one Key.  Send a PM to member RB, he may be able to help you out the the Keychip.
