I don't have any experience with MK6 USA platform, but are there any similar things to the USA MK5s? On MK5s you can check the game's expected setchip version in the Machine Identification menu and the other required settings in Operator Setup > Bet/Line Denom Settings. Really old MK5 games tend to use dip switches instead of setchips however, but these can usually be identified due to the EPROMs having an extra two digits on the end of the chip IDs of U7 and U11 (which is the variation number e.g. AHG123499 would mean variation 99 or 87% while AHG123402 would be variation 2 or 92% etc.)
For example, a MK5 which has been completely wiped will default to 1 line/3 credits but most games have 9 or 20 lines e.g. max bet 45/90/180 or 100/200/500 (although some games may also allow a 3 or 50 credit multiplier, e.g. 9 line games may allow 3/25/50 for a 27/225/450 bet while some 20 line games may allow 3/20/50 for a 60/400/1000 bet). Of course, with the wrong setchip version and invalid bet/line settings the games won't clear at all.
I believe though the MK6 setchips also need to be told whether a game is multiline or Reel Power, Cashman etc., further complicating things. In some cases the game's actual programming might not even be correct as IIRC someone on here couldn't set up their Pompeii machine, which is a 243 way Reel Power game, simple because the game itself expected to be identified as a multiline instead of Reel Power!
All I can say is, Australian (NSW) machines are a lot easier to set up as everything is self-contained and no setchips are required.
