Repairing Reel Baskets....What to Use?
« on: June 23, 2020, 05:16:56 PM »
Here's one for the folks that like to save money and fix things themselves, like me.

I've accumulated a fairly good collection of broken S2000 Reel Baskets and would like to find a decent adhesive/cement that will bond the broken pieces.

There's a lot of products on the market today that will chemically bond certian plastics, but figuring out which one works best is the hard part.

For starters, the material that the baskets are made from would be helpful. Are they ABS, Acrylic, Polystyrene or any other number of types of plastic?

Has anyone done a successful repair on these and if so, what did you use?

I know super glue won't hold them. So I'm looking for something specific to the type of plastic that these are made from for the best results.

One particular product that I considered purchasing and trying out is the IPS-WeldOn #16 for Acrylic and Plexiglass.
I know the reels aren't Plexi, but it says it works for several other types of plastic, one being ABS.

If anyone has had any success, please share your results!

Thanks, Curtis ash100

In my option, Its not worth the hassle of fixing the reel baskets. They are not that expensive. I'd rather sell a quality product, then to have the repair break later down the road. Now if it's for your personal use, that's a different story..
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

I've epoxied reel baskets many times with Devcon for IGT S+ reels.
The plastic is different from the S2000's but this stuff worked every time for me.
Just be careful not to get it in the strip groove....it'll never come out.
Use generous amounts of scotch tape and masking tape to let it set and cure.
It's worth a try for like 6 bucks?
