Helping a guy with S2000 Double Diamond 502 board. He has SG 363's, SB001000 with a S+ ss chip. He changed the battery and for some reason did a clear. He can't get into key menu and gets System Error trying to boot. He is not getting to the machine type error either. He put another board with other chips and it boots up. Does he have to remove the ss chip for key?  Talked with him on phone for 30 minutes. What do you guys think?

No need to remove the SS chip. Post a pic of the board with chips. No idea what he might have done. If he did remove the SS chip for any reason maybe he didn't put it back in right. There's no need to use a SS chip in plain Jane Double Diamond. SS chips should be 120ns or faster to work in a S2. Sometimes 150ns will work though.

I know. Sorry. I had him read the #'s for me. The varta had been removed and there was a little green on one resistor. But machine must have been seeing door closed as when he closed door it tried to boot until system error. This pic. is a little better

The picture is cut off at the top but that SS chip looks like a 32 pin chip. That's obviously a problem. It is a 32 pin socket but uses a 28 pin chip with the 4 on the notch end left open.

Confirmed 28 pin ss chip. I told him to remove it and the sb001000 and put in the chip he has in another machine. Just to be sure the board is good. His other board booted right up in this machine. So software or board. We will find out.

You can use select 32 pin chips as long as the chips is burned properly.
