Confirm wires are attached to the key switch and that the key switch continuity checks out when turned.

With the machine turned off.
Set your multimeter to ohms.
Test the multimeter by touching the leads together.
The meter should swing or go to 000 if digital.
Now locate where the two wires go to the back of the key switch and connect or hold the meter leads to each post on the switch. When you turn and hold the key switch the meter should do the same thing when you checked it's operation.

Just checked and key switch has continuity

Could it not changing the display be the result of a dead coin cell 3v battery on the mpu ?

Make sure you put the battery in correctly and check the voltage again if it's not over 2.9 volts it's bad.

just a FYI for everyone!.  A s-2000 machine will boot up and go through the two clear sequences , HOWEVER, at the end of the second sequence you will get the low main battery message. Discovered this by accident, in a hurry one time and forgot to put the battery in. Try it sometime!

check the cabinet I/O card   or you cpu might be bad!

Just Put in a new battery on board and key switch still won’t work

Once again it does have continuity
Also checked a up card from a working machine and still no luck

Do you have the main door open when you are turning the jackpot key? This is not normal.
