WMS 400 Not Initializing
« on: January 31, 2021, 12:15:49 PM »
American Spirit - Glass lamps light up.  Bill changer initializes, or at least makes the same sound it used to.  No Dotmation lights come on, reels do not make a test spin.  Candle lights are off.  Fail light on I/O board is OFF.  The 5 power supply lights on I/O board are lit.    Voltages on the I/O board corresponding to the lights all look good with a voltmeter.  Re-seated both CPU and I/O board, and all connectors I could find through out the machine.  Re-seated all E-Proms.  This issue has been occurring for some time, but after removing power, and turning it back on it would operate fine for as long as I played it, till it was powered off for a few days, and then powered on again.  Then would have to re-cycle power to get it going.  Now power cycling does not do the trick.  Any ideas ?

I would check the power supplies. I know the voltages look ok with meter at board but the AC ripple is a better check. Check at the power supply connector. I'm thinking with it acting up like this for a while it's screaming that the supplies are bad, need new caps. Replace the 5 caps in the PDU also, the board under the lower power supply. I just had mine with same symptoms, not wanting to power up/boot. The 5 caps fixed all the other little problems I was going to get too.

I will assume the power switch and power cord are ok as you get the leds lit and the fluorescents are working.

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
