It worked once or twice and then stopped.  That is good to know on powering down for the bill validator removal and install.  I figured that it would be made to handle that for bill jams and such. I may have already caused harm doing so.  That said, I haven't noticed any burning smells.

The thought did occur to me that I have not changed out the batteries on the game board.  On my Game Kings I know that causes some pretty bizarre errors.  Is it possible that could be a factor on any of these issues?  If so, are these the batteries that should be replaced?

If the batteries are low, you will get a NVRAM battery Low error, so if you are not getting that, that is not the issue.  If you hot plugged the validator, you may have messed something with it.  Take the validator out and look in the pcb toward the front under the  validator.  If it does not have a chip on a socket, you have a wba12, you might have messed up the flash on it and may need to be re-flashed.  These validators are now inexpensive, so you could try and invest $30 or so on a validator to see if that clears the tilt.

It looks like I have the one with the chip.  I'll call around and see how much they run and if I can pick one up locally.  In case this helps, the lights on the front of the validator show a little red key and flashing blue ambulance.

It is unlikely then that the chip is zapped, those are super robust.  But if you hot plugged the validator, you might have blown something in the pcb board.  It will probably be cheaper to buy a good known used validator than it would be to send yours back and forth to have it repaired.  You should be able to move the smart bezel from this one to the one you are getting.  Those bezels are $25 by themselves.  THe error you are getting with the red circle with the x through it means there is a Rom verification error, or a jammed motor.  See if you can manually spin the gears attached to the motors.  Do you have an eprom burner?  You could read the eprom ic and verify the checksum to see if that is ok.

I don't currently have an EPROMs writer, but was considering the purchase anyways to backup the chips on my game boards.  It doesn't look like the red x is the one that is lighting up anymore.  It now appears to be the little key to the left of it and that light is bleeding into the red x.  I probably won't make much progress in the next week or so, we're heading out for Thanksgiving.  Hopefully the EPROMs writer will be waiting for me on my return.  Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!
