SB Burn
« on: January 17, 2016, 07:16:10 AM »
Hi-

Prior to installing a TITO I pulled out my SB100177 from my haywire and bent a few legs; one of  which broke.  I have the file and burnt a new SB.  I keyed the machine and put the "new" SB in.  Now all off the board lights come on and red light flashes.  I tried the old SB, less leg 39, and have the same results.  I assume that the red is flashing on the original since its missing a leg now and am guessing that it's flashing red with the burnt chip because the chips are bad (they are a couple years old).  I tried multiple M27C4002 chips, the burner confirms my blank check, writes and validates okay.  Also tried using an OEM SB001000 after a clear and key, but fails with "SS EPROM INVALID - oxF011".  If anyone has a working SB100177 they'd like to sell, or the SB file I can get a copy of (maybe mine is bad), or have any other ideas on how to resolve please reply or PM.  Thanks

Seems like your board just went bad. Try reseating all the chips, make sure nothing is in backwards or if thats not a problem, if you have another set of chips make sure one hasn't gone bad on your current game setup. Also make sure your pins on the board insert aren't bent as well. If you have an old chip or other broken leg chip, do a temporary fix by pulling off one of those legs and soldering it onto the little bit of leg that should be left from where it broke off. As for your burnt chip, I used to use those in S2ks all the time, if it checks out, shouldn't be the problem here. Your clearing/key then trying to use sb001000 problem I think is because if you use that base prom, you need an SS chip along with that for it not to say invalid but I'm not 100% because I haven't worked on one in a few months now but pretty sure thats the reason.  Keep us updated. If you are using the sb001000 you will have to use an sschip with that. If you've not done that before. The reel chip is shorter than the socket and needs to be seated to the back with the open leg holes in front. The sb001000 allows you to use S+ games in an S2000. Hence the reel chip.

It just hit me when I was reading through this again that you got the board working with a sb1000 eprom in so disregard the board being bad if that eprom worked fine with the board.
