S+ Slot Problems
« on: June 09, 2014, 09:20:24 PM »
I have a couple S+ slot machines here that are giving me issues. There are 4 machines, all 4 power on and the reels lock up on 3 of the machines. The issues is thats as far as they get, I get no error codes on the display and I am unable to play the game. I have checked all the fuses and the batteries on the board have proper voltage (1 of which I had to replace). Any idea as to why nothing comes up, not even an error code. Could the boards on the machines be bad? I have tried swapping boards around and no changes. Maybe something to do with the game chips? I'm lost at this point, any help is appreciated. Thanks

im new to the S+ but I had similar issues with mine and these guys will definitely get yours working if I cant help..heres what I would do first..check your door optics..if you open and close door, your display should blink or do something to indicate that the optics are working.what I ended up doing was removing the one on the door and waving it past the other one..also check the 6 pin molex that goes from power supply to your back plane (mother board)..if you go back a couple of weeks ago under s-+ red, white and blue, you can follow my post when I was getting mine going..theres a lot of good info there and the archives..and its always a good idea to post some pics of your machine..check all your your connections and re-seat your game and reel chips..im still learning the lingo of all the electrical stuff, but the removable tray with the knob that sounds like you already took off and on to change battery, make sure all those little fingers are not bent..by the way, the one that you changed the battery on , should have had a 12 in the display before and a 61-1 after I think.. I hope I got the right pic this time.it wasn't one of my problems, but seems like every post ive read about these s+ says to check this connection. I soldered mine to eliminate any future problems..

Your best bet would really be to take the machines one by one ....we DO NOT multi-task well....

Take one machine, tell us what it does whe. You power it on, what it displays in the windows, and let us got from there. No offense, but the more you mess with it, the less we can help you. Just turn it on, and post the results....it's kinda what we feed on. Lol!!!

CVslots makes a good point, but 2 things you CAN do on them before you go a lot further is check the condition of the plug that goes from the power supply to the backplane looking for signs of burnt pins and make sure there aren't any coins floatingaround on or underneath that backplane board

Ok, so I was able to narrow this down to 2 machines. One machine the reels wont lockup on it. I've tried other working boards and still nothing. I'm thinking this could be a power supply issue?? Fuse is good. The other machine i still get nothing, like there is no board installed. I'm thinking this has a dead board.  I will try the power supply swap on the other and see if it works.

Swap the board to a different machine and see if the problem follows the board...

About six weeks ago when I was in Bullhead I ask Joey if he had ever changed a power supply in a S+   His ansewer was he had only changed one and that one went bad because a coin got down in it and shorted it out. Now this was from a man that worked in casinos for years as a Slot Tech on mostly S+   machines. I've been on this forum for a while and I do not recall anyone replacing a power supply in a S+  and that swap fixed any kind of a problem.

Now when the power supply doesn't work you can get out that super duper fix all tool THE CLEAR chip and magnify all your problems 10 fold.

OK you said you switched boards, if you are switching a board from a non working machine to a non working machine you have proved nothing. If your going to switch parts around you must switch from a non working to a working machine. Or a working to a non working machine.

I'm pretty sure Cowboy has already given you the ansewer to your problem, if you choose to ignore his suggestions that's up to you.

Help us out a little!  you do have a known good working board?   If the reels are not locking up, and you have put a known good working board in the machine, and it still won't lock up, then you probably do have a power issue SOMEWHERE. the power supply box ( the one with the fuses on it)  only has a transformer,  fuse assemblies, filter, and some terminal strips. I have never had one of these go bad!!, (over 15 years) had to replace a few fuse assemblies because of broken plastic parts, but nothing related to the electronics. If the fluorescent lamps come on, that checks the switching cable from the on/off switch, and that 115 vac is getting into the machine. If all the fuses are good (THE ONLY TRUE TEST IS TO CHECK THEM WITH A METER,THEY MIGHT APPEAR GOOD, BUT I HAVE SEEN THE WIRE BREAK UP UNDER THE METAL PART. NOT VISIBLE TO THE EYE ) Then the AC voltage  comes out the side connector and through the cable to the motherboard, the AC travels through the mother board to the connectors  going to the cpu board. Straight forward! HOWEVER, if anyone is trying to troubleshoot an electrical or electronic problem without a meter you are wasting your time!!!!  having a meter and using it properly removes all doubt as to what is going on electrically. example!!  if you measure the ac voltages at the six pin connector and they are good, it eliminates  the power supply box, if a known good board does not cause the reels to lock up, then your problem has to be the mother board!.

Hope this helps

Jim

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm an electrician by trade so figuring out electrical problems is something I'm good at. Most of the issues on these machines can be figured out just by swapping in good parts with what you think is bad. I will be spending some time doing that tonight and will report back with my findings.
