« on: February 24, 2022, 07:49:03 PM »
Got a S+ that has abused wiring and missing buttons.  I haven't found a schematic that I can work with.  attached are the pics, please help if you can.

BINGO!  I looked for a couple of hours for this over the last two days.  THANKS!  Will let you know how it goes.  Was this in the archives?

I had it on my computer.  Not sure where I got it from, a member here most likely.

Still not out of the woods.  Replacing the buttons and rewiring according to the schematic did resolve 2 problems:

    1.  when I plug in the button panel molex, it does not blow an 8A fuse.
    2. The service/change light works.
The machine still runs well with panel button molex disconnected.

Problems that still remain:
    1.  where do I look to reinstate the function of cash credit, bet1, spin reel, play max.
    2.  there is a buzzing from the coin acceptor, and it stops when I deposit 2 quarters (max bet).  This problem I believe is unrelated to the
above and started before I made any recent changes.

I just got a set038 in the mail today.
Next step to try and run diagnostics.
Undoing someone else's errors is challenging.

THX.

Did you catch that the cash/credit button is wired differently than the others?  It's wired to the normally closed terminal on the switch, the others are wired to the normally open side.  I came across another drawing that shows S13 is the Spin Reels button and S12 is the Play X credits.  I'm not sure which one is correct so those may be backwards.

You can't disable the switch functions, they're always enabled as long as the machine is free of errors, has credits, and is ready to play.

The buzzing noise is probably the coin diverter solenoid.  Those sometimes makes buzzing noises.  A lot of people (including me) just disconnect it.

Yeah, it's always fun trying to repair something that someone who didn't know what they were doing tried to repair.

For the buzzing, I agree with Tilt that it's the diverter solenoid in the coin-in area that holds the rake open for coins to pass through.

From a Facebook group post about this issue, Vincent Tyler says:

Quote
Capacitor in the coin mech is bad and the rake is shaking because the cap cant store enough power to hold it back.

Permanent repair replace the capacitor. Temporary repair [unplug the solenoid and] pin the rake back so the mech can not reject anything. I say temporary because everything inserted will be accepted and this can cause coin in errors and hopper jams but it will make the machine playable [without the buzzing] until you can replace the capacitor
