Hmm...are you reading from a manual for the older S+ cabinets or the newer cabinets with the larger deck buttons and hole in the door for bill acceptors? The newer S+'s had a belly door switch wire ( I don't know what color it was)...the older ones didn't have it as there wasn't a belly glass door. update...I just checked a machine...that one's green.
I'm looking at the older cabinets with the small deck buttons that don't have the drop door for the belly glass.

I'll go look at another machine....this particular cabinet is one that has the bill acceptor thru the reel glass on the right.

oh...on that Molex connector I've circled in green (The 12-pin Molex that has only 10 holes being used.), are there any other brown wires?

Also, the round female pin at the end of this "brown/white" wire is supposed to be inside a Molex housing.
I've seen that round female pin also on the older buttons switches as a ground....but the wires were green.

Another thing....there are some brown wires on the reel harnesses too.
I just looked at a bunch of S+ hoppers.
The color of the grounding wire on the hopper bowls is deceiving.
Sometimes they appear brown in bad lighting...but as you follow it back to the hopper SSR connector...you can see that it's actually orange w/white stripe...lol
What I think happened is that possibly the belly glass fluorescent light faded the hopper ground wire from orange to brown.
It's somewhat shaded from the fluorescent light under the hopper bowl, and you can see that it's more orange.

Now you know what I am up against, I have one of the older IGT slot machines and I am trying read the wiring or parts and sometimes it's just not correct! I understand that several IGT S+ had some upgrades, but this is insane. I print off everything that others write about this project, it helps me reference the issues.
I just wish they had a service manual for this specific slot machine 1991 S+.

Also, the more difficult the project is, the more I am enjoying it. Pulling the pigs tail.

After a long, long, battle with the handle issue I finally figured out that the Cherry snap switch is defective from age, outside it looks normal. I put the meter on it and its acting abbie-normal. Ordered one up.

After replacing the 3 reel resistors on the MPU, checking out the reels, everything has tested correctly.
I am still getting random error codes 41, 42, 43.

Interesting pic - normally there are 5 resistors.
The two that are missing are not needed but all of them appear to have been re-soldered at some point.

Let us know how you make out on your 41,42,43 errors after changing them.

I'd replace that MPU board...saves a lot of headaches so you don't have to make 200+ posts and 6 months to get a machine running.

The IGT restoration is a cumulation of work with an end result of it running.

I have restored six slot machines, 4 EM, 2 fully electronic and documented all of the repairs. I built two EM hoppers, and if it wasn't for the forum members they would probably not be working at all, I had no idea how to build EM hoppers. Were not talking about spraying lube into a slot machine, we're talking about removing every screw and restoring a slot machine all the way back to when it left the factory down to the factory hopper hood for all of them, with all 3 meters, replacing cut wires with exact replacements. Sourcing parts from all over the internet.

 I really didn't need to put it on the forum, it takes a lot of work posting progress, solutions, problems. My goal is not self serving gratification, drawing attention, it's helping others working on slot machines. I am trying to document issues with a solution.

I have a lot of forum members here that are excellent instructors who actually give in-depth information that I print, cataloging, on each of my slot machines. Each slot machine has books, notes, helpful information from different sources. I have a EM 1114 that was a car wreck, I totally restored everything, bring it back from a piece of junk to a nice EM slot machine complete with everything.

I don't think this is a waste of time, I think it's giving back to others who helped me accomplish my restoration. If you like, I could forgo with the posts and keep it to myself in the future since you are a monitor, you could just lock this thread.

What we hate the most is when some entitled p*ick pops on demanding support and when they don’t get instant gratification never post back or worse the fix probably worked and they don’t let anyone know. I think most of us here are just feeling a bit guilty that it has been 6months and we don’t have you up and working.

It's NOT how fast you get a slot machine running. it's how you restore a slot machine, it may take 6 months, or 12 months to produce a quality slot machine.

 I may sit for hours working on a slot machine issue, and finally resolve it.

As I said before, I am a novice, I don't know if the clear chip is the same for the 10MHZ as for the 16MHZ, since it had to be changed to a SP 1272. I get lost just looking at the MPU schematics. 

I just enjoy reading about these slot machines, Bally, IGT, it's awesome tutorials.

Did you mean to say SP1172 here? That's not going to work for your game.

Confusion clarification, my mistake.

  The 10MHZ is DOA. 

I purchased a brand new 16MHZ and the old SP chip was not going to work, I purchased a SP1272 from Alan at K-LAR.
