Bally Alpha 1 S9000 Wild 7s MPU Problem
« on: June 10, 2024, 09:32:22 PM »
Hi Gentlemen, I have a Bally S9000 (Wild 7s) with the 15" monitor up top. I needed to change the 3 CR2032 batteries on it. It has 2 on the mpu which is the 512 board and one on the backplane. So I changed them and put the board back in, after that there is a buzzing and no display on the monitor. First thing I done was to hookup my laptop to the monitor input and the top monitor looks good. I now know I have a good monitor. I took out the mpu and hooked it up to a desktop monitor but there was no display and the mpu still made that buzzing sound. Blowed out a little dusk on board but it wasn't bad. The bios chip is: AVBBP26S300M-03. Top CF card is AVOS00000336-09. Bottom CF card is ASGQHB701001-01 , which I believe is the game card and operating card. I also have tried taking batteries back out and turning it back on but still the same thing. I also shutdown the power switches from right to left and then I went left to right to turn it back on but still the same thing. Is there anyone that could provide a little help or insight to fix this problem. Its hard to believe that just changing the button batteries would cause all this chaos. Thanks fellas for any info that you might have.

When you change the batteries you must use clear card and then re-program the machine.  You need a 335 clear card for 336 OS.

Hi, Thanks for responding so quick. I bought the 335  a few years back. I tried the clear card by itself but it would not boot and still had the buzzing. I'm no expert on my Bally machine but I'm beginning to think it might be bios chip related. Appreciate you getting back with me.

Yes you are right about the bios.

From FireballJackpot:

You can solve the "buzzing" by installing a AVBPROD0R807-00ST U16 BIOS chip. Boot the Engine with a 312 CLEAR card and Clear. Then Boot the Engine with a 317-2 OS card (the game doesn't matter), and you'll now notice the Engine doesn't "buzz" anymore. And you no longer have to toggle the ATX switch to boot the game.

So is the AVBPROD0R807-00ST U16 BIOS chip, a updated bios chip for the 512 board? Also we would need a new 312 clear card and new 317 O/S card to finish the update?  Also wanted to ask, is this something that I can buy as a kit or is it separate? Where can we purchase the bios chip and a new 317 O/S card. Appreciate the info.

So the above procedure is the correct way of doing this. I won't need the old bios chip at all? Just leave the new one in it correct? Thanks for any info.

The 807 bios is the older bios, but on the stepper games it doesn't really matter if you have the newer on you removed.  You can just use the 807 bios combo.

I want to thank sixcardmark, rick, and RB for all the help. I used Fireballjackpot's advice with the 807 bios and cf cards mentioned above. The Bally Alpha is back up and running great. Thanks so much fellas for your help and advice. :thank_you:
