Ok, this is kind of a continuation from my first post regarding Diagnostic 124 or 113 not being recognized by the machine. I borrowed a 122 and was finally able to access the Diagnostic Menu.

Original problem that the machine came in with is the Reel Backlighting and Divider Lights Inop and showing those Errors when the Door is opened.

Via the Diagnostic Menu, I was able to run the Backlighting Self Test, and only Reel 1 cycles the LEDs, 2 and 3 remain dark. But, the screen says test results are normal/passed test.

Same thing with the Divider Lights test. Only Reel one's Divider Lights worked, but test passed and says system is operating normally.

There's obviously a problem somewhere, but my lack of knowledge doesn't allow for me to figure out a good place to start.

If I disconnect the Ribbon Cable from Reels 2 and 3, all of the lights come on full bright white. But they do not work via the Self Test prompt.

So, I don't know what to do next. Do I order a Reel? Do I replace the PCB to the left of Reel 1? The Self Test didn't do anything to help me out, unfortunately. And i was quite disappointed once I finally found a way into the Diagnostic Menu after numerous Diagnostic Drive attempts.

What's been the fix for others who have experienced Reel and Divider Lights issues? I see that this is a fairly common problem.

Thanks,

Curtis ash100

The first thing I would do is examine the part number of each reel assy to be sure they are the same. The one that works verses the other two. There is more than one S3000 reel assembly and the two are not compatible. It's possible somebody before you replaced a reel(s) with the wrong one.

Update on this S3000 problem,

I ordered a couple of replacement reels, of course they were the wrong part number and don't even fit inside of the Reel Shelf together. They're a 1/4" wider than the originals. The ones in the cabinet are 66012002, the wider ones are 66012004. I'm guessing that they require a different Reel Shelf.

I do have one spare 2002 Reel, and I've been trying to figure this thing out, but it's kicking my butt.

I can rearrange the Reels and put them in a different order, and each time receive a different result. That's the part that baffles me. Some work in position 1, but not 2 or 3. The one that worked in position 1 will not work in 2, but in 3 and so on. At one point I had all 3 Reels fully lit continuously and they would not go out, so playing the game wasn't any fun with everything on full bright.

The Divider Lights are also doing the same thing. They work on some Reels and not others, but do in different positions.

Along with all of the Reels I ordered, I replaced the little Driver Board on the side of the Reel Shelf. It made no difference.

In the Diagnostic Mode, the only Reel that Lights is position 0 (1). The others stay dark. Results shown are Normal and Failed Test.

So, at this point I'm ready to dump this POS. Apparently this thing is beyond my troubleshooting capabilities.

Sorry if this post is confusing to read, but I'm highly confused myself. As the process of elimination doesn't seem to work on this cabinet.

I can only assume that if Reel 1 works and 2 doesn't, then 3 won't either? But that's not necessarily what I'm experiencing. I guess I'll just keep ordering Reels until it decides to work.

Any help or suggestions?

Different Reel Shelf to fit the newer Reels? Or will that require wider cutouts in the Glass?
