IGT S PLUS part identification and coin drop problem
« on: February 05, 2024, 02:11:55 PM »
I have a IGT S PLUS Double Diamond slant top machine. I pulled the hopper out of it because the quarters that were still in the hopper up mechanism were stuck in place. So I had to work them loose and clean it all out.
Well after I took the hopper out the part in the first pic fell off of it when I set it on the table. I did not see where it came from and can not figure out where it needs to go. The 2nd pic shows the part number of that part. Does anyone know where this part is suppose to go?
Also I have an issue where when the door is shut completely and I try to put a quarter in the quarter does not go down into the coin Comparitor. It just falls down inside the machine. Any ideas why the coins would not be going down into the Comparitor like it should?

               Thanks

When a coin is inserted in the machine, it first passes the coin comparitor, then through the ABC optics.

This ONLY works when the door is closed - On a upright model there are optics that sense the door is closed.
So regardless of the physical state of the door - if the optics are bad then the door isn't sensed as closed.
On Slant top models they often used a plunger switch rather than door optics albeit there are exceptions.

First question - do you have a light behind the glass that says "insert coin" - This usually means the door is closed.
Another test would be when you close the door the reels spin once, the coins played / winners paid would blink off/on.
If the answer to this is yes......

Then the second question - do you have a sample coin in the comparator ?  "perhaps" you removed this when you were cleaning up.
If you insert a coin and there is nothing to compare it to - then its rejected.

Let us know about how you make out with these and then we can discuss the ABC optics if need be.....

Ok I don't think I explained this well. I  have the machine door optics bypassed with a Cherry switch like is in the upright machines. If I have the door open and pull the Cherry switch plunger out to make the machine think the door is closed. Then I can put a quarter in the top of Comparitor and it goes down through coin optics and to the hopper giving me a credit. I can reach over the door and hit the spin button and machine operated as it should. So the Comparitor and coin optics work as they should.
The problem I have is when the door is completely shut and I put a quarter in the coin slot. (See pic) circled in red. The quarter does not drop down Physically into the top of the Comparitor like it should. It just drops down into the machine like something is missing that is suppose to guide it or something.
Anyone have any pics of a S Plus slant top machine of this area? Maybe someone has a slant top machine.
I don't know if that part that I dont know where it goes could have something to do with it or not. I would not think so.

      Thanks

The metal piece on the outside of the chasis is called a Coin Head.
You nailed it - that the purpose is to ensure the right size of coin is used.
There are also guides both width and girth for the ABC optics - Ie if the optics are setup for a dime - there is no way something as thick as a nickle would fit through.
Conversely if you set it up for a nicke - a dime would never be recognized.

Doesn't his problem sound like the coins won't fall into the CC?
Like there's a possible "coin guide" to the top of the CC missing?
You know what?
Try this...>>>

Open the door, use some books or sponge or a towel to help hold & aim a cellphone camera up at where the TOP of the coin comparitor would be.
Of course, turn it onto camera recording mode....close the door slowly...the camera may capture what's not lining up between the coin head and the CC?

Stayouttadabunker, exactly the coins will not fall physically from the Coin Head down into the coin Comparitor. Everything is setup for a quarter. I will try what you said and see if I can see something.
Do you know what that part is I can't figure out where it belongs. It fell off of the hopper when I set it on the table but I dont know if it belongs on the hopper some how or if it had fell off something else and was hanging on the hopper.

     Thanks

That part is part of the door latch assembly.  I think without it your door is not closing completely and allowing the coin head and comparator to not line up properly.

63mini, thank you that is definitely part of the door latch. I  have it fixed up where it kinda works but now I know it is definitely not right. I had found part of the door latch stuff in the bottom of the cabinet. This part was hiding in the hopper some how. I dont know if it will make enough difference to make the Coin Head line up correctly with the coin Comparitor or not but I will see.
Again the coin Comparitor and coin optics work 100%.
It is a physical  alignment problem not anything in the machine not working.
In the pics the coin does not fall out of A into B like it should.

   Thanks

newkid3,

Another thing to look at.  I think your hopper escalator could be putting pressure on your comparator housing/assembly.  In your photo the output of the hopper escalator is in the wrong spot.  It should be in the "Y" channel as shown in in the attached photo.  I have added a yellow arrow showing where it should go.

63mini, you were dead on. I got the door latch installed correctly and got the hopper escalator moved into the right position. Now everything works as it should. It was just not lining up right with that stuff not being like it should.
Now if I could just find a replacement backglass for it. Mine is cracked into.

   Thanks

Put in a WTB add in the classifieds or call up a bunch of the vendors from our home page with what your after.
Lots of slant glass around.
