An Alpha 1 That Does Not Like Printers

There is a machine that does not like printers attached to it.  No need to wait for it to boot, immediately after power on.

Plugging in a Ithaca 950 or 850 printers, power on, the speakers make a popping noise, then the bass speaker shuts down.  Sound is crackly and very muted.
Plugging in a Gen2 RS232 (to the same plug), power on, and a god aweful loud noise comes out the speakers.

There is clearly something wrong here.   Any clues before digging in and tracing wires?

Are you sure the printer harness is connected to the right plug in the backplane?

You know, that is a very good question.
The connector is in the neighborhood of the printer.
That doesn't mean that is the right connector.

Here is a picture of the connector.   IGNORE the label "Handle Mech Optic"  that is a different set of cables that just happened to be in the picture.
