Top monitor shakey
« on: September 02, 2018, 08:35:18 PM »
Has anyone ever had an issue with a top monitor that occasionally shakes? It only does it rarely then stops normally except on ruby slippers. When I turn on ruby slippers it’s perfect but after idk 30min-1hr of warm up the screen works but shakes back and forth. I was just wondering if anyone thinks this might be a sign that something is failing, and is there anything I can do to help it?

It's usually the other way around (shakes at the beginnig and improves as it warms up), but my money is on the AD board for the monitor.  Typically, if you just recap it, it will fix those issues.

Sorry still just a little confused, what is the ad board? And where is it located?  Not so good on internal components ye.. would this cause the top monitor to delay turning on by a small amount of time (eg 5-25 sec after bottom) when powering on? And yes, btw any time ruby slippers is not the game it is the other way around

The AD board is inside the monitor. It is the board where the VGA cable plugs into the monitor.  On BB2's the top monitor sometimes takes a while to come up.  Same thing happens on my bb2 cabinet.  I don't really know why it does that.  Sometimes the top monitor will mirror the main monitor, other times it will stay dark until the game switches to the WMS splash screen after the initial text screens go off.

AD = analog to digital (A/D), it's how the video signal gets converted inside the monitor from the processor board's analog output signal into the digital signal the display monitor uses.

..... And yes, btw any time ruby slippers is not the game it is the other way around
Since the shakiness changes when you have a different game in the machine I wonder if it is affected by whatever display resolution the game is using? (like 1080i, 720, etc)

That kinda what I was wondering as well about the resolution. But it’s very weird because it either A: very rarely does it at startup, when the WMS splash screen is uncentered in the upper left right before loading top screen on games, but again very rarely) or B: after about 45? Minutes of Ruby Slippers play. So I was thinking it was a resolution on situation A.
