Any idea what kind of cabinet this is?
« on: May 04, 2020, 01:45:42 PM »
Hi all.  I hope everyone is doing well under the current circumstances.

So I recently finished a repair and restoration project on a recently-acquired Game King.  I'm very happy with the way it has come out, and it has already given us several hours of enjoyment.

Something that I recently noticed, however, is that the top glass didn't look right to me.  I couldn't really put my finger on it, and having never owned one before, it didn't really jump out and grab me.  I started by looking at some images online, and in the process of educating myself, discovered that the upright cabinets came in three different styles; round top, square top, and chop top.  Also, I was trying to find an image of what my glass looked like, only to come up empty.

Looking at other images further, I did notice that there was a glass that looked something like mine, but it was square and much larger, as if my glass had part of it chopped off.  So, now I took my top glass out, and my suspicions were realized, as I saw that the top part was indeed cut into an arch in order to fit my cabinet.  While the bottom and lower portion of the sides were beveled, the arched part, while cut well, had a sharper edge to it.  Now the box itself seems to be in a shape that I can't seem to find an image of, either.  It's not any of the styles that I previously mentioned.  The best I can guess is that it most closely resembles an "arch top", which I presume is a style that was available on the slant version.

So I'm wondering, has anyone seen a cabinet like this before, or is this some kind of strange hybrid?

The top is definitely not IGT, looks like someone fashioned a top to make the unit shorter to probably fit into a smaller space.  The top graphics are not even complete.  The cabinet is a 19 inch "Panda" cabinet, but the top as mentioned before is an aftermarket mod.

Yep, that's what I figured.  That would certainly explain the difficulties I was experiencing when I was trying to find the proper mount for the printer.  I wound up having to make my own.

Well, I will say that whoever made the top did a pretty good job doing so; you can't even tell from looking from the outside if you don't already know it's not the proper one.  The sides and back of both the lower and upper cabinet seem to be covered in what appears to be a woodgrain-like Formica, so it all blends together quite nicely.

Well, aside from the top glass, it doesn't really bother me all that much.  For what I paid for it, I think it's fine.

Thanks so much for clearing that up for me, rickhunter.
