Bill validator not working
« on: January 03, 2024, 05:59:13 PM »
Trying to get my bill validator to work. When I turn the machine on it runs and make some noises like it is getting power. The lights in the yellow $5 to $100 face up display do not come on.  Is this something that needs to be set up in the settings. It won’t take any bills either. Just really would like the lights to work. I have a BV on /off chip that came with the machine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You have a DBV-200...that's ok.
Test it with a one dollar bill....it's a pretty old validator...a one might be the only bill it will accept, but, try re-seating the bill box first.

Watch the [Coins Played] window on the display as you fully push downwards on the door handle latch.
The moment the door latch is down there, whatever number that's in the [Coins Played] window should go out for a few seconds, then come back on.
This means that the door optics are working.
Next, the "Insert Coin" light on the reel glass should come on , as well as the bill validator yellow light, telling you that the machine is ready to accept money.

I have tried a few different dollar bills with no luck. The yellow light is not on so I’m sure that why it is not working. I can see a red light inside where the dollar bills goes and it makes noises when I turn on the machine but the yellow still won’t light up. Would like to get this to at least light up and take 1 dollar bills. Thanks

Did you check and see if the validator is enabled and the machine's denomination is set?

Is this done using the chip that is marked BV on/off?

Technically its called a SET chip and should be labled SET 015, SET 021 etc.

If you go to the home page, bottom right is RICKS FAQs there is a section there on how to use a SET chip.
The various set chips have extra features like being able to program progressives etc, and some fancy machines like TOP Dollar have functions that are controlled.
Set 15 is pretty universal for enabling the bill validator.

There is a document called a PSR (Program Summary Report) that says what SET chip is best for your machine.
Your machine has two chips a Game Chip and a Reel Chip. The Game Chip is numbered. The PSR follows the same number.
There is also a PAR sheet (Paytable and Reel) associated with your Reel Chip number. It outlines things like volatility payback percentages etc.
Again See RICKs FAQ about how to display your Game and Reel Chip number and post it back and someone will forward you the PSR.

If your a contributing member we have a downloads section with a number of the PSRs ajd PARs on file.

Thanks I will try this tonight. I’m assuming I replace the game chip on the board and assuming it’s the one labeled “game” and not “cmos” or “reel” ?  Just want to make sure I do it correctly. Thanks

Yes - You replace the game chip.
Instructions are in Ricks FAQs.

1. Turn the machine off before removing hopper or the MPU board.
2. Be careful removing the chip - use a small screwdriver at each end and slowly lift it up bit by bit.
3. Note that the chip has a small hole at one end and it is oriented towards the knotch on the socket.
4. Insert the SET chip the same way - ensuring its aligned correctly with the hole and the knotch at the same end.
5. Put the board back in (you can leave the hopper out)
6. Power up
7. Follow the instructions in RICKS to set the denomination.
8. Reverse the process - ensuring you start with the power off... and put the game chip back in.
9. Insert the hoppe

Post back as to how it goes.

I went through the settings and set it to 9….1 and the denominations and went great but the validator still doesn’t work and won’t take any bills and the light will not come on the “5 to 100 face up” light.  Not sure where to go from here. Also noticed the small switch when you open the cash box is broke. Pushed it in temporarily but still doesn’t work. Can I buy a replacement for this switch ? Thanks for everyone’s help. Would just at least like to get the lights to turn on :)

You're only allowed to pick one denomination under page 6 in the SET chip settings.

I wouldn't worry too much about that bill entryway yellow light right now.
Would you have a multimeter to check the lamp to see if it's any good?

Are there any green wires going to that cash door microswitch?
If so, cut the wires off where the tabs go on the microswitch, strip the ends, splice them together wrapping the ends with electrical tape.

Do you know what firmware is loaded into the validator?
Try a one dollar bill....it's the only U.S. bill left that has a small head on it...works on any old bill validator.
You don't know if your bill validator has been updated for the newer bills or not.

Whch microswitch is busted?

use the test mode to double check and see if the settings took., press the white test button, until you see a 5-0 or 5-1 or 5-2 in winners paid, scroll through that menu until you get to 9-1 if it is set you will see this,  then advance until you see a 6 in the coins played window, should see 25 in the winners paid, spin reels lit, pressing it , the number will not advance, then it is set.

check the bulbs in the yellow display using the denom socket, power is there as soon as power is applied.
make sure cash can is pushed in all the way, make sure the transport is seated and sitting on the bottom of the shelf assembly, red handle all the way up,  on power up, heavy grinding noise, this is the transport meshing with the cash can, next noise is a softer meshing between the head and transport.

switch should not have any wires on it, they should be bypassed,  that switch is not needed.

hope this helps

Jim

Yes it has 2 green wires going to the switch. I will just bypass it. Tried lots of dollar bills and it won’t take any. It doesn’t even take the bills in at all. I know it is getting power because it goes through its start up or whatever with all its noises when I turn the machine on. The bulbs are good also. No idea what firmware it has. Just got the machine a few weeks ago.

You’re going to need to do it again.
After you changed it to a 1 then you need to either hit spin or turn the reset key to lock it in.
