I have an s2000 "reel detective" machine. I was able to get the bill validator working and the game plays fine until it hit 777 which only pays 300 coins. The machine then locks up for a handpay? how do i fix this?

Turn the jackpot reset key on the right side of the machine above the pull handle.

How do I not have the machine go into a hand pay for 300 coins. I want all prizes below the progressive to go to credits.

You need to change the Limits in your machine. 3.1.4.
You must have zero credits on the machine to be able to change the values in section 3.1.4
Set the Jackpot level to a value just under the max pay jackpot on the machine. IE if the top payout on the machine is 10,000 credits set the jackpot level to 9,999 credits so that at 10,000 credits a handpay will be triggered anything lower will pay via ticket or coin depending on your machine. Remember in section 3.1.4 the value is set in dollars not credits.
Also one more caution if your machine is a coin only machine without a TITO system I would suggest setting the hopper limit at a reasonable value because if the hopper limit is set to $8000 and there is over $8000 dollars worth of credits on the machine and someone pushes the cash out button you will have to keep refilling the hopper until it pays out $8000. If it is a quarter machine that's one hell of a lot of hopper refills. If you set hopper value to say $300 it will pay $300 in coin and the rest will come up as a handpay which is easily resetable with the jackpot key

No luck my credit limit is $3000 but I still get a handpay on 300 credits. See pics

What is the jackpot limit? That is what you need to change.

The credit limit just stops the machine from taking on additional credits via coin, ticket or bills above the value set.

The hopper limit sets the maximum pay out from the hopper.

Hmmm that should be it. One more thing I can think of, It might be the machine is set up for partial pay. If it is enabled disable it. ( located in the 7. Set up area)

New problem when the machine hits three sevens it treat's it as a jackpot and pays out to a ticket and clears the meter.

What is the denomination of your machine what is the value of one credit?
I do not know what the payouts to your machine are so what should three sevens pay?
When you say clears meter am I to assume this machine has a progressive? What progressive unit are you using?

The machine is a progressive sizzling 7 rethemed to a reel detective machine with a spectrum progressive meter. It's a quarter machine. The sevens pay 300 credits and should be paid to credits. It appears to be Mismapped so that the 7, s are coded to the jackpot symbol. Is this possible? It used to lock up the ma gone for a handpay when it got three 7's as if it were a jackpot.

What SB chip did you change to when you made the reel detective machine? The only other things to check are you sure you have the reel strips installed correctly with the tab engaged in the strips.

I didn't change any chips. I bought the game as a reel detective. It came from the trump plaza in ac.
When I first played it I hit the three red 7's and it locked up for a hand pay. I was told to check the jackpot limits, which were fine. Then I was told to check the credit limits and they were fine. It seems to me that its not choosing the correct symbol on the reel and mistaking the 7 fir a reel detective symbol. Although it locks up for a hand pay when it hit three detectives. I was reading the s2000 manual and there is a reel strip test in menu 5. should I check the reel strips and the payouts? I'm so close to fixing this machine. All I have left is this issue and mounting the progressive.

OK so what you have is a Sizzling 7s clone called Reel Detective. It also looks like it is an S2000 using an S+ chip set with an SB001000 and SS3343. My suggestion would be to get the S2000 chip set for a Sizzling 7s machine. That is replace the SB001000 with a SB100087 and remove the SS chip completely. By doing this you can also choose the odds of the machine without having to replace SS chips.
You will have to set the machine up again along with the progressive but it should solve all of your issues. (You should be close to an expert at this by now

)
Please post a picture of your mpu board so we can see what SG chips and board type you have.
I'm not familiar enough with SS chip sets to know if what you have can be used.(apparently not the current SS you have now anyway)
Set your progressive and limits as previously discussed.
Accounting value anything under or equal to your coin value.
