61.1 cant get past it

have s plus customer brought to me  had a code 12 , put new battery on board , got my 61 hit test button got 61.1 closed door turned rest set key it wont come off of 61.1 ,check the wires to the bill door and made sure those were tied off, same thing, replaced jackpot key switch same thing , replace both door optics with 3 know good working optics same thing , tried a different cpu board same thing , replaced back board same thing , i have no idea where to go from here this is my 1st s plus that has every did this in my 20yrs of working on this stuff any help would be great double checked all the wires no cut or broken wires

You are in the "61 loop"
You will need a clear chip.
Do a search on the forum for the above quoted term and you will see this is common.

Once a clear is done you will also need a SET chip to reactivate the bill validator.

ran the clear, it clears the machine but still won't come off of 61.1 I should have put that in my post.  I guess next step it to rip the harness apart
 and look for broken optics wire some place or to try and find out if there are drop door wires in the harness some place.

You can check the door optics by running self-test [13-0] in the Flip sheets?

Open the belly glass door too....sometimes a microswitch is up there on the top left-hand side.

thanks Jim I will try that tonight, will let you know what I find out. great u tube video, i never had this problem before with all the yrs i worked on this stuff, so that's what's had me crazy.

You can't run the door optics test when a 61 error is present.

Dave, if it's not advancing past 61-1, either it's not detecting the door(s) as closed, or your jackpot reset key switch turn is not being detected.

Here's how you can find out which one isn't working.
With a video camera, look for a blue-ish ligh coming out of the door emitter optic.
It will be faint but obviously lit up....that means it's good.

On the cabinet reciever optic, disconnect it, set a multimter to ohms putting your probes on the two pins.
Shine a flashlight across the optic...the ohms should change on the multimeter...that means it's good.


There's another way too...lol...>>>

I pull the harnesses off of both optics, stick a 4 ft. piece of wire into the flat-side, purple hole on the door harness.
At the other end on the cabinet harness, I stick the wire end in the pointy-side, red hole and your optics are jumped.
If the J/P Reset key works, turn it, and the [61-1] should go away.
Now you'll know you need some optics...

found the problem , broken optics wire inside door button harness where the harness makes the bend at the door opening fixed that and all is good now , thanks everyone for the help ,1st time in my 20ys i had ever run across this problem.    also thanks mark i guess us guys getting old is catching up with us ,
