Running other games on a gamemaker hd v20/20?
« on: June 25, 2023, 08:55:58 PM »
Is it possible to run other games on my gamemaker hd v20/20? It has a 1ghz mpu with 2gb of ram. I think I should be able to do it if I unplug the USB for the directional buttons and set it as a 11 button deck in the settings menu. Anybody ever done this? Will it work?

I have done that. You can unplug the USB cable, then use the max bet button to play the game.  Setting to 11 button deck will work, but the hold buttons will not function as the alternate bets if memory serves me right.

So I put this to the test. My findings indicate that the game maker button panel is compatible with more software than I anticipated. It would seem that any game larger than 256 MB that is designated with just a number will work with the game maker button panel with no issues (see pics below). I also found that any software 256mb or smaller that is designated with AVGxxxxxxx will not work.
So basically some newer alpha 1 games and all the alpha 2 stuff I have works and uses the button panel. This raises my curiosity about the alpha 2 games that supposedly won't work in a alpha 1 cabinet because the game is looking for an i-deck. Is it possible a game maker deck may satisfy this requirement and I can run much newer V22/22 games?

It's not just it's looking for an iDeck, the OS and other requirements would not be met.  The OS on an alpha 2 machine needs to be installed to an SSD, you don't have that option on an alpha 1 cabinet.  The opposite is true, you can run some alpha 1 games on an alpha 2, but not the other way around.  Some people did the conversion to an alpha 2, with a backplane and an mpu, but no iDeck, and thus were getting the iDeck error on those games that needed the iDeck.
